Guest guest
I would use half the amount of DMSA and see how he is doing. You might also consider to use more vitamin C. Dagmar. [ ] Signs of too much DMSA/ALA As I understand Andy's protocol, I can give my son up to 1/2mg per lb of body weight of ALA and DMSA, every 3 hours while chelating, as tolerated. I have a question about how you know whether or not your child is tolerating the dose they're getting. What typically happens if they don't tolerate it? We are currently doing about 1/4mg per lb, but I'm wondering if we're using too much. Here's our situation: We've been seeing great progress with our 5yo son, who has just completed his 4th round (we do long ones: 10 days on, 11 days off). The last two rounds, we added in DMSA for the last 5 days of the round and saw more improvements than with just ALA alone. However, after the end of these last two rounds, my son becomes very hyper and generally unpleasant to be around. Not just for a day or two when the round ends. It's more like for 5-6 days after the round ends, then it clears up. I know it isn't yeast, and least I think not, because he's having perfect poops. Could a rebinding effect last this long? Do you think I should take the DMSA back out? I hate to because it seems to help -- he's an angel in the " on " part of the cycle, it's taking him off the ALA/DMSA that turns him into a devil. I'm trying to decide on dosing for the next round. Your thoughts? =======================================================

The only way I can really tell is by trying GSE -- if he doesn't improve, I know it isn't yeast. My other suggestion would be to shorten the round and see if that helped. Guest guest
I would do shorter rounds. Ten days may be too long this early into chelation. I have a teen and did not extend a round beyond 3 days till somewhere around round 80 something. You can also increase the vitamin C and/or selenium. >>he's an angel in > the " on " part of the cycle, it's taking him off the ALA/DMSA that > turns him into a devil. This can mean [altho not always] that your child needs more sulfur in his diet. Try giving more sulfur foods: eggs, dairy products, bakery products containing whey, cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, broccoli, broccoflower, brussel sprouts, kale, turnips, rutabagas, asparagus, onions, shallots, leeks, garlic, coffee. Guest guest
How in the world do you get up twice (or even once) per night for ten days straight??? :-) As for the behaviors afterwards, if it isn't yeast, you may want to research licorice (if behavior is due to low cortisol) and/or NAC (if child responds favorably to sulfury foods). Look to the archives for more info. on both of these. I'm summarizing/simplifying what I've read in the past about adding either of these on the off days. You'd need to research it further or run it by your doctor.
