Kori,

We have the adjustable Fillauer bar (red one), size 'large', and

was at the extreme length of it already. Although only 15 months old,

he has pretty wide shoulders. Apparently this is the biggest size

available and the bar was getting pretty unstable with hardly any

overlap. So our orthotist lent us another one while he had an extension

piece welded onto each length.

It looks just the same, just longer and they re-sprayed it blue, so now

has a good match with his jeans! Unfortunately it's a little

heavier now, but it's more stable, and will easily last him until he

stops wearing his FAB - and for long after that too!

There's no bar longer than 14 " ? If not - someone needs to contact the

mfr.

and have them make longer ones. Darbi is wearing the 12 " bar now and

she's

only 13mo old.

Allyn,

A too-short bar will cause a lot of discomfort for your daughter. She

cannot sleep with it like that. You should have it changed ASAP and

preferably to an adjustable bar that you can make longer yourself as she

grows. Have the width between the heels of the shoes be the same or a bit

longer than your daughter's shoulder width.

moderately severe bilateral clubfoot

3 months unsuccessful local casting pending surgery

corrected by Dr. Ponseti with 3 casts & tenotomy

out of FAB too early, just before 2 yrs old (loose ligaments)

relapse, ATTT at 4 years old, doing great.

Ok,

my daughter is supposed to wear her DBB at night when she sleeps, yeah

right! i read all or your posts about how your kids adjusted so well. When

she first got them she did great and then it stopped. it is a huge fight to

get them on nevermind that she wakes up at night crying and wont give up

till you take them off. Well we have changed somethings but now i dont think

they fit. anyways.... her bar is very short, i asked her orhto last appt

about a longer bar and he said that is would proabably be more

uncomfortable. But her bar is really short and its not the lenght of her

shoulders. its shorter! her legs always look very uncomfortable in them so i

think that is the problem, do any of you think she just needs a bigger bar?

b/c they are supposed to change the bar as they get bigger right? Also she

has started crusing so i dont thinkthat she is relapsing but i wouldnt know.

i do know that with these shoes she will not wear them! her next appt is in

july i cant wait!

thanks

I would think they would change the bar length as she grew. Our orthotist

said his heels should be pretty much even with his shoulders and when we got

his new shoes on Monday, they even lengthened the bar some since he's

growing so much. We have the red adjustable bar. It sounds like you have

the gold nonadjustable bar?

Hi Allyn

My son also struggles with sleeping when the bar gets too short. I have the

added problem that our Physio who is using the Ponseti Method says that the

bar length is fine when I take him in so I have to do it myself. Last time I

changed the bar for a bigger one and he slept properly again. I measure the

shoes against his shoulders and they really have to sit into the shoulders

and then you know you have the correct the width. The inside of the heels of

the shoes have to measure shoulder width. I think they are uncomfortable

with a bar that is too short.

Yes, they are uncomfortable in too short of a bar. Our brace shop

didn't extend the length of the bar either. It was through reading

the board that we brought this to the attention of our Dr. and he

gave a written order to the orthotist. We also have an adjustable

bar that we occasionally have to adjust at home.
