Guest guest
a, instead of feeling out of contol and ending up binging on everything why don't you do a woe that allows for some of the things that are calling out to you? when I feel 'that feelin' coming on I switch to weight watchers where you can eat almost anything but it counts as points, for example you said the scones were tempting you I can't find scones for the point count so I will use Bagel which is 3pts for 1/2 a large Bagel~in your case you say your weight is 187 so at that weight you are allowed 22-29 points a day with all veg. being free and fruits are 1 with bananas at 2pts~I'm not promoting ww cuz my heart belongs to Atkins woe, but it serves the purpose of eating things that start to knaw at me constantly when I can't have them~Jan. will be my 3yr ann. on Atkins and to be honest w/you I get plain sick of eating the same for months on end,I don't gain on ww and this time I even went down a few but I don't care if I lose on it or not I just want the break to eat the things that drive me nut's and causes me to think of eating sweets [my downfall] all the time~when I crave sweets I eat FF fig newtons at 1 pt each, fig newtons are so sweet that it only takes 2 or 3 to satisfy me..~something to think about ALICE >*;*<

Guest guest
Esther, I do think relapse is a good word... When my wife and I are watching TV and another story about Downey Jr and his drug addictions come on she always seems mystified as to WHY... he keeps going back... It is just no mystery to me... some days I am just feeling weak and that bowl of pasta... or that Krispy Kreme donut can blind me to the consequences it is bringing into my life.... I too know that gluten products are pain... and yet the taste buds win out... it is weird!!! esther_p210 wrote: > > I am not at all as faithful GF as I should be... That makes it sound like a game, race, or other competition. How about "relapse"? My primary care doctor says he has about 15 celiacs whom he sees in his practice. (He must have THOUSANDS of patients!) He says some of them can have gluten without any reaction whatsoever, and those are the hardest to convince about the damage they're doing unseen. I guess I'm a lucky one, in that even mere crumbs cause me to react. I can react to gluten I can't even find. That makes it easy for me to "believe" in the damage that gluten is doing. I look at gluten products as pain. Sure, I still miss some things. But when I look at those things and "think it through", it becomes an easy decision to choose something GF instead. Sure, a big bowl of whole wheat pasta at Olive Garden would be yummy. For about 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes, I might as well have flushed a $20 bill down the toilet. Literally. If someone handed me a $20 bill and said "Please go to the ladies' room and flush this for me", I'd probably say "sure. I'll do that." Then I'd go to the ladies' room, hide the $20 and flush. Wash. Later I'd spend the free $20 on yarn. Yarn is gluten-free for sure! Now, THAT's "cheating"! (Dishonest, too. After all, if you promise to flush a $20 bill, you must do so. Right?) To me, no gluten tastes as good as pain-free feels. Sounds strange to say this, but I'm grateful to have strong pain-wracked reactions to gluten. It makes me really BELIEVE in the GF diet. Guest guest
Gluten isn't just pain for Celiacs, IT IS POISON!! Consciously think of it that way and maybe your taste buds will convert to GF taste buds. Check the archives for some of Esther's old posts. She had one about pining after some gluten St Pat's day food she'd never even had prior to GF that made me laugh so hard I cried. We all face temptation, but really, if you can manage to stay " clean " for a good period of time you might find your taste buds are no longer the little devil whispering in your ear anymore.
