Guest guest
Hi, My husband and I just joined this egroup. Our son has recently (1 week ago)been diagnosed with being very mildly autistic, he's four and a half. One of our main issues of concern that has gradually increased over the past year or two, has been his diet. We are vegan so he does not consume any dairy whatsoever, but he has limited his diet to only wheat products. His typical daily diet consisted of a package of Soy Dream original enriched, 2-3 cups of diluted white grape juice, Triscuitts, and cinnamon life cereal. Sometimes he would eat other crackers or ginger snaps, but everything was wheat. So since he was diagnosed we have been on-line reading everything we can, and reading a few books as well. It seemed as though removing gluten from his diet would be the best thing to do, so yesterday was his first day without wheat. So far all he will eat are potato chips, but it's a start. I thought it best to start him out with gluten free versions of foods he will eat, then try introducing more. So far he wont eat the cereal or other snack foods we bought but, he does like playing with them. My question is if anyone knows of good vegan gluten free snack foods that kids might like? Also, does anyone know if Ore Ida French Fries are gluten free? I emailed them last night and am hoping for a response this morning although I probablly won't get one for a few days. My husband read that some french fries are dusted with flour to keep them from sticking. We read Albertsons regular fries are alright, but my Mom has Ore Ida, and she is watching him this afternoon while we meet with the early intervention people today.
