Guest guest
You should be able to change his diaper just fine with the bar on. It might be a little tricky at first, but it is definently do-able. As for clothes, I would always just pull them down over Kaitlin's feet while I changed her diaper. A little more time consuming with all of the wiggling, but atleast she could wear them. Of course if the diaper leaked I would have to take the shoes off, but usually we were okay. As for cutting the feet out and hemming....that is a little more difficult and I never tried it. I think it could work though, if your up for the sewing. Guest guest
We modified the footed jammies and it worked out just fine. Especially after you get past the point of changing diapers in the middle of the nighe Now - at almost 18 mo, we use zipper jammies with the feet cut out -did not even bother to hem them, and it is great! Angel DBB and clothes Well, hubby is taking 's shoes to work tomorrow to cut holes in the heel so I can make sure they're on correctly and so we can see what's going on back there. He still has a red mark on his heel, but thankfully it's getting better. We have the red adjustable bar and I checked it against his shoulders. His heels are pretty much in line with his shoulders, so no problem there. We found out that the shoes actually come off the bar really easily....just loosen a wing nut on each one and that loosens the hold of the bracket thingys that hold the shoe. I figure that now I can wear some of the shorts and stuff that he has that don't have snaps on the legs. If I need to change his clothes, I can just remove the bar for a minute and change his pants. Definitely a lot easier and not as time consuming as removing the shoes. When I thought I'd always have to remove the shoes to change clothes like that if necessary, there was no way I was going to dress him in pants without snaps, but since it would only take a minute or two with removing the bar, I'm willing to give it a shot....if I'm able to change his diaper without removing the bar. If I have to remove the bar each time a diaper needs changed, I guess it's pants and shorts with snaps only. The things he can't wear, of course, are all the footy pajamas he has. Once we go to wearing the bar only at night, he can wear them during the day in the fall and winter when it's colder, but I was wondering if anyone else has ever tried to modify the footy pajamas by cutting off the feet and then hemming the cuffs? If so, how'd it work out? I've been thinking about it so he can get some use out of them, but I'm not sure how that would work. I'm not exactly a great seamstress...I'm lucky if I can hem somthing, but I do have a sewing maching so I may have to give it a try sometime. Okay, sorry for rambling on... : ) and

Guest guest
I have cut the feet out of some of our pajamas. It works pretty well and a lot of the fabrics don't even have to be hemmed. Hemming the outfit shortens it some so I would recommend doing it in a size larger pajamas then he usually wears. Guest guest
I didn't even think about the hemming shortening it. Just glad to hear that others came up with the same idea. I hate having all those clothes hanging in his closet that he can't wear, but now I know it works to modify them so he can wear them. and BLC 03/25/04 Re: DBB and clothes > I have cut the feet out of some of our pajamas. Guest guest
, What is this wing nut you're talking about? I remember many months back someone saying *wing nut* yet the red bar that I have (thanks to Angel) doesn't have any wing nuts. And getting the shoes back on the bar in the right spot proves difficult because keeping the groves lined up with wiggly foot isn't easy. So where are you taking the bar apart at? Under the shoes or is each side coming apart (with half a bar still attached to the shoes on each side)? For whatever it's worth... I didn't do the snap jammies or pants or suits. Finding these for girls is... well all about ugly. Also it was summer for 23/7 so she wore shorts and dresses with little panties a lot anyway. She also wore a lot of stretch pants. Had a ton of these given to us and I would dress her the night before with stretch pants for the next morning and she slept in her clothes. I found that I could pull the pants down to the ankles while changing diapers and they were a little tight but it totally worked. So whatever she wore - was not special or with snaps or anything. I dressed her how I wanted and we worked around her brace. I had the gold non-adjustable bar which is rather simple to get the shoes off. And sure, there were a number of pant/clothes changes when she was little and the diaper leaked but with the gold bar I just slipped them over her feet with the shoes still on and it worked really well. I never cut any outfits up... I just didn't use footed jammies anymore. I still have some but she never wears them. The one thing I found with the footless jammies last year is they would make them snapped... but only on one leg or sometimes even with full cuffs that didn't split apart but snaps in the legs and crotch so it was no better than a non footed jammie. We worked around them because I had dh buy her a few pairs on clearance before I realized they were only snapped on one leg but they weren't ideal. If you have a digital camera could you take a pic of this wing nut thing for me? I'm really curious what this is and on what part of the brace it is. If you can get a pic you could send it to the CFPics list. I'm still interested in finding a way to make the red bar so the shoes can come off easier (and go back on easier). Let us know how it goes with the hole and the red mark. Hopefully soon it'll be all gone! Kori & Darbi

Guest guest
Kori, A wing nug is just basically a nut and bolt, but a wing nut is easier to tighten with your fingers. It looks like there are two unmovable bracket things and one that adjusts, depending the on the width of the shoe. I'm taking the shoes themselves off the bar. Even though you can see the indents where the brackets go, hubby marked the sides of the soles too. I've never actually taken the bar apart, although I will if it ever needs adjusted better to be lined up with his shoulders. We received a ton of footed jammies, so I'm going to see how it goes if I cut them, just so he can use them. I tried finding the ones that snap down the legs, but haven't had a lot of luck. Some that I did find are like you said...the cuffs don't split apart. He actually has two outfits like that that were gifts. He's gotten to wear them a couple times though, when his shoes were off while his blister healed. I took pictures of the bar and joined the CFpics list. Membership is pending, but I see that you're the list owner! I'll get the questions answered and sent back to you shortly. Once hubby gets home and gets the pictures off the camera and I'm able to post to the group, I'll send them through for you. Hubby did get the holes cut today and the red mark is looking better. His shoes will be going back on tonight when hubby gets home. With the holes in the back, the red mark should be able to finish healing without any friction or pressure and I'll feel better with the shoes back on. and BCF 03/25/04 > What is this wing nut you're talking about? Guest guest
, With regards to the PJs. I found some at Kohls and Walmart with snaps all the way down the leg. I know you hate to not use what was given to you. I am going to try to alter our footie pjs too. Guest guest
, With regards to the PJs. I found some at Kohls and Walmart with snaps all the way down the leg. I know you hate to not use what was given to you. I am going to try to alter our footie pjs too. Guest guest
I also found some wonderful snap pjs at Kohls and Walmart. Some of the ones from Walmart I got on clearance and only had 1 side with the snaps, so I took the seam on the non-snap side out and bought some little strips of fabric that have the snaps on them (don't know the technical term for them) and had someone sew them onto the inside. The person I took them to was so cheap because there wasn't much labor to it. Just an idea.... Guest guest
I modified p.j.'s for also. If you sew it's easy. I bought jacket zippers and put them in the inseam of the blanket sleepers (cutting the feet off below the elastic with the pinking shears). I did this to some of his outfits too. It made for easy access and it didn't really change the look of the outfit either. Guest guest
I actually tried modifying one last night and it worked out pretty well. I have a Singer tiny serger, which doesn't cut the fabric, so I serged around the fabric after cutting it to keep it from unravelling. Not necessarily the prettiest thing, but it works and he was able to wear the sleeper. and BCF 03/25/2004 DBB 23/7 DBB and clothes > > > > > > Well, hubby is taking 's shoes to work tomorrow to cut holes in > > the heel so I can make sure they're on correctly and so we can see what's > > going on back there.
