Guest guest
Sharon, Yes, mine was brought on by the drastic weight loss WAY TOO FAST because when I developed the ulcers I couldn't keep ANYTHING down but ice tea. I couldn't get in any food or water and it quickly depleted my system of all nutrients it needed to survive. My body went on shutdown mode. Woke up one day and fell, tried walking and just fell. It was SO fast that they didn't have a clue what was wrong. AFter three months in three different hospitals I was diagnosed with " poly nutirional nueropathy. " It rapidly killed all the nerves in my body. I couldn't walk, right, feed myself, bathe myself, etc. I had to take major supplements and had to have a pic line iv and TPN nutrition thru the IV 12 hours a day. I have to say this was the lowest point in my life and I just wanted to die. They finally sent me home, and I begged to stay in the hospital, I couldn't fathom how I would make it at home, even with my husband not working to stay home with me. It was truly scary, and the worst part was what it did to my daughter who was only 6 at the time, and losing my independence. My husband was wonderful, NEVER complained, always told me that when he married me, he married me for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. I knew after going through what we went through that we could get through anything. Now to answer your question, I don't take anything now, I have all feeling back with the exception of my left foot and ankle because they had to remove nerves to test for certain disease and I never did get the feeling back. But I walk, write, type, eat, do everything I could do before just a little slower. I can't run a marathon or anything, but I can kind of sprint across the room if I need to LOL...... Anyway, sorry this got so long, it's not an easy explanation lol.......If you read this far, thanks! Life is great, I had my health taken away and given back, I will NEVER take things for granted again, least of all my health. Guest guest
Oh Marcy! I am so sorry you had such a horrible experience!! How awful!! I DO know exactly how you feel, though... I was in the same kind of shape you were in prior to my wls, and for nearly a year after -- until I lost enough weight to be able to heal so I COULD walk again! (I had a major car wreck in 2000 and had surgeries on my left leg, etc... nerve damage and not healing due to weight/diabetes, etc.). So, I can sure feel for you!! It is EXCELLENT to hear that you ahve been able to recoup so much feeling! That is awesome!! My left foot is still dead to the world, too, but I can move fairly fast when I need to, too! :~) My left arm/wrist is still causing problems and they want to do a surgery on it, but I won't let them... I'm too afraid I will lose what I have, and since I am a potter, I really need what little I have to be able to continue potting... I still have not been able to throw yet, and was getting my lab together again when I got pregnant and can't lift the clay or use the chemicals until after I deliver... so, more time to heal!! Anyway, I didn't mean to go on about me... lol!! I guess I just wanted you to know that I can sure feel for you... I'm right there with you, hon! :~) Warm hugs Sharon Marcy Dadian-Wallis said: > > Sharon, > > Yes, mine was brought on by the drastic weight loss WAY TOO FAST because > when I developed the ulcers I couldn't keep ANYTHING down but ice tea.
