Guest guest
I feel for you- & wish I had some sage advice! Any chance that her leg muscles are just sore because this is the first they've been out of the casts? Is she just fussy, or acting like she's in pain (I know it's hard to tell the difference sometimes)? I wish there was a magic wand to wave so we knew what was bothering the little ones..... Big hugs coming your way- hope you & are feeling better soon. &
Guest guest
We had to give Rose Tylenol the first night and then we held her all night long. When she would start to stir we would change her position and be good for another couple of hours. After all night, and I mean from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., she woke up and was a different baby. Since then, we have never had a problem with the shoes and bar. It was my feeling at the time and I have noticed in other posts, that her club foot was slightly swollen and it just hurt to put it in the stiff leather shoe. I really think that was the problem because the next day she was frustrated with the bar from time to time, but not unhappy. On the other hand, people have commented that babies who's feet do not get fully corrected REALLY FUSS. If you have the kind of bar that you can adjust the setting, try moving her feet from 70 to 50 degrees. If this helps, I would get her back to the Dr. for a check because she probably needs more correction. Best of luck, Robin & Rose 3/12/03 Right Club Foot. chris@...> wrote: Wow. It's been an interesting 24 hours. We got 's casts cut off yesterday and we put on the shoes. That went okay - the usual fussiness and such but since then it's been constant. The bar is set at the right spacing, the shoes are not pinching her anywhere and are on correctly, and yet she just doesn't like them. We spent the night together rocking and wishing for sleep and I think tonight will be much the same since today has kind of gone that way as well. Any suggestions? Guest guest
We too have recently moved into the sandals. Although tolerated them well, her feet were very tender after removing that last cast. I felt so bad having to grab onto her ankles to put on her brace with her feet being so sensitive. It may be that after being in casts for so long has lost a sense of security. I know it sounds funny but seemed to fuss between cast changes. As soon as her casts were back on she would relax. (It could also have been from the warmth of the casting material??) They are so used to kicking their legs in heavy casts and then all of a sudden that is changed. Her knees may be a little stiff also. Infant tylenol may help to take the edge off. Hopefully will be tolerating her sandals very soon. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you. Bridget 2/20/04 bl cf - mitchell sandals 23/7 > Wow. It's been an interesting 24 hours. Guest guest
Thanks Robin. I know that her feet are appropriately corrected because I asked that several times and we checked them together. Her feet are sensitive from being in the casts - for a variety of reasons she's had them for 3 mos - so we put lotion on her last night when we changed her socks. Last night I was up with her all night holding and rocking her. Since she has an apnea monitor I don't feel bad putting her on her belly and I guess I'll try that tonight to see if that helps. We've had a hard time feeding her, too. Whether it's due to the shoes or the bad cold she has is anyone's guess. I don't think they hurt her as I can move them around and such without her complaining. She's also already gotten the hang of moving her legs together. Oh well... I'll let you know how things go tonight. Chris Re: First 24 hours on FAB... We had to give Rose Tylenol the first night and then we held her all night long. Guest guest
Thanks for the good wishes - she did fuss between casts and for the first 24 hours or so of new ones. Then she settled right down and moved her legs like a pro. Perhaps tonight will be a better night. I'll give an update tomorrow. Chris Re: First 24 hours on FAB... Guest guest
Angel - she did that right off the bat. No need to help her learn that one! Guest guest
One thing I would suggest is show how to move both her feet together at the same time. If nothing is hurting her than it is probably frustration. We were warned about this before my little one got his shoes. We would hold the bar and move his feet for him. Within a day or two he was fine. Also their little feet are soooo sensitive. I would wait on a full bath a couple of days. I know that was the part I was looking forward to the most was to bathe Simon, and believe me it made it that much worse. He did not want anything to touch his feet. > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot > >Subject: First 24 hours on FAB... >Date: Tue, 4 May 2004 17:04:39 -0400 > >Wow. Guest guest
Anybody out there with any suggestions on success stories on how you got on after the first 24 hours? I am going through it again!! (Lola got a lovely infected blister which meant she was out of her boots for 2.5 weeks)... I am expecting a few sleepless nights. Did all of your babies adjust eventually???? Guest guest
Sandy, When we first started the FAB last August, we had about 48 hours of 'very irritable' baby, and then he was fine. Try playing with the bar on her feet, moving it up and down, so she gets the hang of moving her legs in tandem. And of course, making sure it is fitted well with her foot nice and secure so that the heel doesn't move up, which causes blisters... Also, I put together various practical tips on my website for parents, maybe they will help you. www.clubfoot.co.za/practical_tips.htm Good luck! and 24th Jan 2003, bilateral cf. Guest guest
First, was she casted while the blister healed? If so, then she should get used to the brace rather quickly. If not, you will have a problem due to lost correction. Which brace are you using? Angel RE: Re: First 24 hours on FAB...
