Ok everyone, I have just gotten my results back from a biopsy of myblisters i get after eating gluten stuff, and it said there's no signof the dermatitis herpetiformis, but i get it 1-2 days after eatinggluten stuff (on top of feeling horrible)...is there something elsethat ACTS like a gluten intolerance but isn't?? The only thing ihaven't done yet is get the intestinal biopsy stuff, and honestly havebeen avoiding it so far, any suggestions or help for me out there?Thank you! Tina

Maybe it's just a skin reaction to gluten, without necessarily being a true dermatitis herpetiformis. Could be like any other allergy: hives??

Sounds more like an actual allergy then. Do you have CD confirmed by

blood test and/or endoscopy?

I have an IgE allergy to wheat and soy, among other things (and in

addition to CD). If I eat either one of those (or merely come in

contact with them), I break out in dyshidrotic eczema. A google

image search will pop up some pictures for you. The eczema isn't my

only symptom, but I'll get it from traces/cross contamination and

I'll have it as a door prize after an anaphylactic reaction has come

and gone.

Could it be eczema or psoriasis? I have some patches which my

doctors suspects are actually psoriasis--they only come with gluten

exposure. Since CD and psor are both autoimmune, they can hold hands

and make one miserable.

Nope, that's the other part of my problem, every time i think i'm on

the right track to diagnosis, they say, NOPE...negative results! i've

had allergy tests already, not allergic to the wheat part, they SAID i

don't have the blood antibody for gluten allergy (they just tested the

tTG one instead of all of it, and after i'd been on the gf diet for a

while) the boipsy of the blister, haven't done the colonoscopy my doc

reccomended yet.

I've been halfheartedly chasing a diagnosis, the next step is the

colonoscopy, and am NOT looking forward to it, i have problems " back

there " and hate the thought of getting something like that done.

Hmm...mine aren't " big patches " -like my doc said " they don't look the

same as regular dh " they are stand-alone individual blisters that last

up to 2 weeks, and have clear stuff in them? I get them all over,

mostly on my face, the back of my neck in my hair, and on my

" posterior " , once in a great while they pop up in other places like my

arms/legs...i wonder what it would be like to have your body

cooperate?! it should come with instructions like " avoid this because

it causes that " LOL that i could understand!

Mine are small little bumps that come one at a time depending on how

much gluten I get. They seem to start up about 12-18 hours after I

have eatten something suspect. They itch like crazy though. My mom

gets them the same way I do. If we get alot of gluten we get alot of

bumps if we just get alittle gluten we get a bump or two on the

elbows first, then knees, scalp and butt. I tested positive with the

blood tests and scope so I have never had the biopsy done. I know

it's related to the gluten though. I read somewhere that you also

have to have plenty of iodine in your body to get the rash. If we

have malabsorbtion maybe it depends on how much iodine you are

getting at the same time? I guess those of us with the rash are NOT

supposed to have iodine medical tests either. Mom just had

angioplasty with the iodine dye and her kidneys totally failed for a

few days.

Medicine is not an exact science as mathmatics is. So if a test comes back negative, you have to know it carries a percentage of "false" negative. My daughter had negative blood test but positive diet change. Family medical history and testing of my mother proved gluten was a problem. I have a choice to watch my daughter react when given wheat, because the doctors say she doesn't have a problem with it, and watch her grow up and suffer like my sister and my mother. OR, take her off gluten like I did myself twenty years ago, and let her grow up feeling good everyday. Listen to your body, not the test. Check out enterolab.com. The antibody is produced in the stool, not the blood. They also do genetic testing. Read the rational on the website and see if it makes sense to you. Don't forget, doctors are human they are not God.

Hope this helps. pmbluemoon wrote: Nope, that's the other part of my problem, every time i think i'm onthe right track to diagnosis, they say, NOPE...negative results! i'vehad allergy tests already, not allergic to the wheat part, they SAID idon't have the blood antibody for gluten allergy (they just tested thetTG one instead of all of it, and after i'd been on the gf diet for awhile) the boipsy of the blister, haven't done the colonoscopy my docreccomended yet.I've been halfheartedly chasing a diagnosis, the next step is thecolonoscopy, and am NOT looking forward to it, i have problems "backthere" and hate the thought of getting something like that done. > >> > Ok everyone, I have just gotten my results back from a biopsy of my> > blisters i get after eating gluten stuff, and it said there's no sign> > of the dermatitis herpetiformis, but i get it 1-2 days after eating> > gluten stuff (on top of feeling horrible)...is there something else> > that ACTS like a gluten intolerance but isn't?? Thank you :) I actually posted a message on here a few months back

asking if enterolab was worth it, but got no replies that answered the

question. I asked my doc if he would support or do the enterolab

tests, and he said he wouldn't, and that it wasn't covered under my

medical stuff (i'm on minnesota medical assistance, VERY LIMITED) and

i'm a student not making much money, so don't want to do something

that would put me further in debt than i already am without SOME sort

of postitve feedbacks first...

I definately know that docs aren't god either, i've had bad luck most

of my life and think of them more as the opposite, misdiagnosis &

emergency room visits....*bleh!*

We like enterolab. I know that since it hasn't been published and

all that some are skeptical, but our doctor was very supportive of

it. As far as money, we spent a LOT less on my husband's enterolab

than we did on co-pay and deductible for the dr and hospital on my

daughter's endoscopy. We were able to combine the gene results,

with the family history with the stool results, plus the turn around

on the GF diet to feel good about it. However for my DD it is nice

to have the endoscopy so that it can follow her through school. We

have had 5 other family members since then tested through enterolab

and have been very happy with their service and feedback.

I am glad this helped. The one thing I have gotten from reading these messages is there is so much suffering and so much testing. The doctores are trained to listen to the test not the patient so if the test is wrong the doctor assumes you are fine, just a little crazy. It is not right, but that is why you have to listen to your body. My daughter goes to a homeopathic doctor and I prefer her care because she actually listens to us. Medical doctors can do wonders, trauma etc, but when it comes to things like CD you might as well go see a rock, you will get more caring and help. Enterolab for me was wonderful. My daughter was negative on blood tests and I was not going to put her through the endoscopy at her age, and I have read you can get a biopsy of a portion of the intestines that has not been damaged and you will get yet another negative test. Also if you have DH, unless your dermatologist is experienced with

this, you have another chance of false negative. From all the reading I have done, if you feel better GF, then stay away from the testing and just take care of yourself. If you really need to know, then enterolab is your answer. Call up the lab and talk to them. Or email them with your questions. You can email Dr. Fines himself with your questions or concens, he is actually human. It is money well spent if you really need to know for peace of ming. pmbluemoon wrote: Thank you :) I actually posted a message on here a few months backasking if enterolab was worth it, but got no replies that answered thequestion.
