I am in south central texas, for 19 years, 1 month and 2 days.

Reasons I want to move:

It’s hot here and there are no changing of the seasons

Humidity makes it unbearable 8 months of the year

Lawns are burning up/brush fires all over

The air quality due to allergens is crippling – we are all on allergy meds

Layout of the “city” - there is none and you can’t get anywhere without a car

Culture— non-existent

It’s “bush” country which doesn’t mesh with our ‘style’

We are so close to the border and that makes it tough to get a decent wage. I am self employed but my husband is STILL making less than he was in Florida almost 5 years ago...

These are just a few reasons. I was born and raised in NY state north of the city and my son just moved to Boston to attend college and it’s time to go!

:)

What part of Texas are you in, and why do you want to leave?

Hi Jackie,

Compared to California, yep, Texas is very affordable. PLUS if you like the heat, Texas is the place to come!

Last summer we were in Austin, the actual temp was 106 degrees, but felt like 111 with humidity... It gets warm by March and 90s by April- we are still in high 80s to 90s so we run A/C year round — that sux too...forgot to mention that LOL!

I love the Fall and the Spring and we don’t get either here — we get summer and “hell” in terms of temps.

I also miss the snow, the hills, the lakes and cool fresh air. I miss the variety of people in the East .. On and on I could go!

Have you been to Austin or have a reason for picking it?

I hear it’s very “upbeat” and “cool.” I don’t know cool anymore, lol!

It’s about 70 miles from us.

Sue

HI Sue,  Nope we've never been there, but we're originally from Chicago and don't like the cold at all :(We lived in las Vegas for 2 years and that was getting very dirty, congested and HOT! LOLHere in CA the weather is darn near perfect, no snow, but a 2 hour ride gets me to it. It's the housing thatis crazy. I just can't afford it. We have always owned our own home and would like to again. We thought of Austin because our daughter is a Musician and we heard it is good for that, and they have some culture.Thank you for all the info. I guess we'll have to take a trip and just see, huh?  JackieHi Jackie,Compared to California, yep, Texas is very affordable. Austin is THE PLACE in Texas for a Musician so you should fare well there... Most who visit absolutely love it.

I lived in chicago for 6 years and miss the culture Soooooooo much along with the diversity... But again, if you don’t like the cold, I hear Austin is the “ny of texas” - I guess being from NY I don’t see that LOL!
