Hi all, it's so good to be back here! First, very best wishes to all who have

had procedures this month and especially to e and , who went

through so much.

I had my abdominal myo on 12/8. Very successful. The BIG news first --

instead of what appeared on ultrasound to be 2-3 large (9 cm, 5-7 cm)

fibroids, there was just ONE HUGE -- 25 cm (about 9 in) " multinodular " fibroid,

attached to the top of the uterus in one place. This made the surgery easier

and faster than anticipated (lasted 1-1/2 hour). I saw pix, the fibroid did

indeed look like a snowman, as my surgeon described it. He said that they were

very pleased to find a " perfectly fine, normal uterus " underneath it, which was

repaired and I am now healing very well. Am I the only person we've heard of

who ended up with FEWER fibroids than expected?

Hi Sunny,

Welcome back and congrats on your very successful myo! Gosh you must

be so relieved!

25 cm is huge, but probably mine is about that size too (five-month

pregnancy size, mine is). What I found interesting is that you had

your period on the day of the op. Mine was initially set for 19 Jan,

but my period this month came a bit earlier, and so next month the

19th would fall on Day 3 of the period, which is always the worst day

in terms of bleeding. So I'm trying to re-schedule for 16 Jan

instead. Dr, said he'd prefer it if it wasn't " full flow " yet, so I

gather he means Day 1 ok, but not Day 3?

Overalls post-op is a great idea!! Thank you!I live in UK but am

going to San Francisco next week for holiday and intend to buy all

my " sick clothes " while I'm in the US, as they're a much cheaper

there than here. I'll keep an eye on overalls. And large underwear

(so it is true -- they are useful, are they?!).

Can you tell me more about this " real pain " you had post-op? That's

the bit that scares me actually. I had an op for an ovarian cyst in

1988 (bikini line incision too, also about 6 inches), and when I woke

up I still couldn't speak as my mouth muscles were numb, but I was in

GREAT pain and started groaning and moaning to try to communicate

that I was in pain until they gave me something (I can't remember

what) for it. I do hope it won't be as bad as that this time.. How

bad is it really? And how fast does morphine work once you press the

button? Did you have considerable pain even after going home?

Great to hear recovery has been so fast though, so much so that you

feel like you could go back to work on Week 3 already! In the UK,

Drs. tell you to take 6 weeks off post-op, and I'm no hurry to go

back to work where I normally work like a slave, so that's fine by

me! :-)

Happy recovery you and all the others who had their ops this month!

I'll announce mine when it's my turn...

Thank you Sunny for the clarification to my question,

and thanks

Cheryl for your reassuring words. In fact, going

through the various

post-myo reports posted here it looks like the

majority of women did

not experience any amount of considerable pain after a

myo, so I will

try to be positive and believe that I will be one of

the lucky ones

too!

As regards my op. date clashing with my period, you're

right Sunny.

Maybe it's just for their own convenience that they

don't want you

bleeding. This month's period was actually quite

manageable (didn't

leak once!!), so if the next one is just as " good " , it

might not even

be a problem. I have to stop being so paranoid and

always imagining

the worst...

I have recently started taking some Chinese herbal

medicine (off the

counter -- haven't checked with my gyno, which is

naughty, but I AM

desperate!) that is supposed to help fibroids shrink

and even

disappear (depending on the size). Of course I don't

expect it

to " terminate " my football-sized fibroid mass just

like that, but any

decrease in size until the op. date (in 3 weeks) would

be better than

an increase. Has anyone here taken Chinese herbs and

actually had

results (ie. fibroid size decreased or disappeared)? I

am already

thinking of my post-myo period -- I really don't fancy

going through

this horror again in a few year's time, so I'd do

anything to make

them not come back. Hey, posy-myo ladies, what are you

doing if

anything to stop the monsters from reappearing in your

lives?

I am willing to try ANYthing -- yoga, changing diets,

acupuncture,

herbs, and also spiritual healing, which I believe in.

Thanks in

advance for your tips! :-)
