Guest guest
You asked for it so here is my story. My daughter (Tori) was diagnosed via ultra sound at 18 weeks. We had several other ultrasounds and when they all came out fine we chose not to have an amnio. She was born on January 30 and was taken to NICU because she was born not breathing after 5 days there due to Jaundice we got to take her home and she was casted 2 days later. Our doctor said he was using the Ponseti method but after the first day I was suspicious because he put her in ½ leg cast instead of the full leg cast. She kicked them off the next day and he put her in full leg cast. She was casted for 7 weeks during which she kicked of 2 more of the full leg cast. After that he put her in AFO's and I was sure he was not using the Ponseti method so I began looking for other options. She would not stay in the AFO's and at my insistence she was put in the DBB she continued to get out of these also so I requested the Markell shoes and even brought in the flyer sense they had not heard of them. She kicked them off all of the time also. I e-mailed Dr Ponseti and he said we needed to come down. So I partially convinced my husband and we went and saw Dr Ponseti. He said she would need 2 casts and then the Tenotomy and that she had atypical clubfeet. We he put her new cast on the same day and she cried for 30 hours and was crabby the whole rest of the time the cast was on. After the first cast Dr Ponseti said her feet looked great, she would not need the second cast and she was ready for the Tenotomy. She was in cast for 2 ½ weeks following the tenotomy. This cast she did not mind so much. Now her feet look great. She is in the Ponseti Brace and is doing great. She has adjusted well to being back in the bar and the best part is they are staying on. This is a link to a lot of information. On the top left is also a link to specifically Ponseti info. http://www.internet-health- directory.com/Conditions_and_Diseases_Musculoskeletal_Disorders_Congen ital_Anomalies_Clubfoot.html Tori 1/30/04 bilateral atypical cf brace 23/7 12/7/01 non cf
