Guest guest
> I would like to know how I can become more involved with the NCT. Contact your local committee. They will know what jobs need doing. You could be a telephone contact or host open houses/coffeemornings or maybe hand deliver a few local newsletters. Or be the branch yahoogroups contact, passing on info to the right people. There are lots of jobs which don't need a car but do need someone who can sparea couple of hours. Good luck, -- Sue
Guest guest
Oooh, snap that woman up someone quick! , try making contact with the chair of your branch and going along to a committee meeting you will soon find there is plenty going on that you can get involved with. It helps to think about what sort of things interest you and what skills./interests you bring. There are often people wanting to stand down but they are just waiting for someone new to come along and pick up the reins so don't be put off if all the committee posts seem to be full. Further afield your regional team are also looking for volunteers..... Lesley, Antenatal teacher, trainee breasteeding counsellor. Demented mother of 3. Worthing. " We are born naked, wet and hungry. Do make the point that you need transport - don`t just say assume you can`t take part in something because you have no car. It is common to share lifts to committee meetings, events, etc and especially regional days. If it is not done in your branch you could start it ! IMHO people who are new to NCT should have the opportunity of being taken along to their first event by someone anyway, so they don`t get lost & don`t have to walk into a room of people on their own.. As the others have said, have a chat with your chair, go along to a committee meeting and get the feel of it before committing yourself to a specific job (unless you have one in mind!) Maybe you could join in with a team of people who are organising a one-off event, and take it from there.... Hope to meet you sometime at a regional day, conference....etc.etc... :-)))) Barbara Student ANT, Romsey, Hants

Guest guest
I started with volunteering to get the phone messages from the branch information line, which is an easy job that takes about 10 minutes a week and certainly doesn't take a car. It sorta snowballed from there, I guess and now I'm helping with the newsletter (will have to lay it all out after this next edition, because the main editor is having her baby), go to all the branch meetings, and am on loads of NCT yahoogroups. There probably are plenty of things that you can do for your branch.
