Guest guest
Hi there, everyone... I just came across your group, and thought it " fit " in many ways, so I wanted to introduce myself. My name is , I am a 34yr old married woman,an RN, no kids, who had a VBG on May 6/03. I have lost 38 lb in 6 weeks and feel great about it so far... My fertility issues, like I am sure many of yours go way back. I have had PCOD for about half my life, and know exactly how it relates to weight and vice versa. My hubby and I have been married for almost six yrs, and three yrs ago decided to undergo fertility assessment/treatment after Clomid given by my OBGYN in the max doses did not work. So, went to the fertility center and was asked to do the max Clomid dose x 10days instead of the normal 5. If after two months this wasn't successful, we would perhaps do a laparoscopy and ovarian drilling, and discuss the options. At that point I was still morbidly obese... Make a long story short, I did the one month, my ovaries produced follicles but they were never large enough to inject with Profasi to release them. Unfortunately, at the same time (and of course, we all know how mentally balanced Clomid makes you feel), I was dealing with stress at work and post traumatic stress disorder related to unresolved sexual abuse issues. I was hospitalized several times until it was safe to be at home. Looking back, it is a blessing in most ways that I didn't get preg then. Since then, I have reclaimed my life in many many ways. I have been a pediatric nurse (hence my love of children) for over ten yrs and made a very positive career change last Sept. I realized my heart couldn't stand to see any more of my chronically ill pts that became family to me die. (Cystic fibrosis unit)....I now work on a telephone advice line that is just starting in our province, and absolutely LOVE it..It is like working in an emerg with a blindfold! Exciting and never the same call twice...Physically and emotionally, the surgery is helping me regain my health by leaps and bounds. I had lost weight before (90lb at TOPS 10yrs ago) but was never able to keep it off because I hadn't dealt with the abuse and other issues. Weight was always a protective armour I wore. Well, feels great not to need it anymore for protection, and the self esteem boost I have gotten so far even has been well worth the surgery... As an " added bonus " , my surgeon tells me that a woman's fertility index goes way up the minute she has surgery. Well, miracle to behold, two weeks to the day post op, I got my first period without taking Progesterone in TWO YRS...I am really really hoping this wasn't just a fluke, because I should be having it any time now and have all the " signs " that I never trusted in myself before (PMS symptoms) cuz they never panned out before... Its funny that after this many yrs together as a couple with fertility probs that we now have to use " protection " , but I am taking the Dr very seriously as he has had pts get preg way too early post op and have problems. I just about DIED going to the pharmacy counter to purchase condoms ( " for HER pleasure " ,it said on the box..lol) where a 90yr old granny rang me in! Anyway, I should stop babbling...I am just so looking forward to this new chapter in my life, and wanted to see if anyone out there has had similar stories? And successes getting pregnant in your mid thirties post WLS having gone through PCOD... Thanks for listening and I can't wait to get to know you all...
