Guest guest
Cindy H. I'm so sorry to hear about your electric wheelcahair and insurance not paying for it. Plan #1 Have your Dr write a strong note of medical necessity stating you have to have it not only because of you legs but you're shoulders too, they are doing you physical and medical harm by not complying with the order and payment of your electrical wheelcahar.T hat a manual wheelchair is impossible given your medical condition, have him go into detail. #2 Write the CEO of your insurance carrier. # Write your District US Congressman and US Senator from your state, Call their offices too, they have offices located in your district. # Write the Attorney General of you state. I bet you'll get your chair then! Hang in there! Go gettem them. Goodluck, keep me informed. Sincerely, S. my insurance won't cover power wheelchairs!!! > I have been so bummed out since hearing about our ins. not covering electric w/c's! > My therapist called the care coordinator to find out what's needed, and was told they don't cover them *at all*! It's strange they cover manual ones, but not the power ones....wish there was something that could be done. > I have Medicare so I'm hoping and praying they will. > > I'm soooo disappointed. :( > CindyH > Wisc. > > >
Guest guest
Cindy H. Get all the Doc's to put it in writing. Go see Rheummy make him do it too! If he won't rely on the PCP an genetics and PT and anyone else. They don't want to pay for it because it is so much more expensive than a manual wheelchair. Do you have an Orthpedic surgeon. U se everythin I gave you plus all Doc's willing to help. The other chaie as we both know will do more harm than good.I also know it's hard to accept the wheelchair, but you've gotten to that point. My time will come too. But this is absolutely ridiculous they won't pay for it. It will add to the quality of our already lousey lives, plus manual is just impossible. Do all the things I suggested, give it a whirl, don't wait! I feel so bad for you! When they deny, you force the issue, no one else will for you. They will just write you off if you don't complain to higher ups, powers that be. Getting your Do'c Ins and especially Congressman and Senator and Attorney General involved will force them to pay for it! Hugs, S. Re: my insurance won't cover power wheelchairs!!! > , > I sure appreciate you letting me know some of the avenues I can take if they keep refusing to cover the expense. > Why in the world would they cover manual and NOT electric ones? Unless it's just the money--or to hope to discourage me. > It doesn't seem fair at all to cover one type and not another. Having a manual one would make my condition much worse not better. My therapist felt the same. > It's taken me so long to even get to the point of psychologically accepting the fact I do need one, and now this. > > I doubt my rheumie is going to be of much help. He hasn't a clue as to how severe my EDS is. > I've thought of going to my genetic doctor- I know he'd support me, and also include how severe my EDS is. > As I can't see my rheumie being of much help. > He's the one that sent me to this therapist to begin with...I go, and he didn't contact my therapist after wards. Two weeks after my evaluation, his nurse calls me instead to tell me it's OK! The therapy clinic needs him to sign something and they can't get him to do that either. > I have the feeling he thought the therapist would find there's nothing wrong with me-instead he found lots of stuff the doctor had missed. He's the same doc that 'pooh-poohed' my knee when I complained of pain. Then a couple months later my PCP had it x-rayed, and found the cartilage was gone. I have no idea why the rheumie has gotten like this. He used to be understanding, etc....until I began to have all these problems so close together. > All my other docs seem to understand what alls going on but not him..... > That's why I doubt he'll be of much help at all in getting the wheelchair. > > I just don't want to miss out on all the stuff I could be doing, instead of sitting at home especially when the grandkids are hear and want to do something that would be so much fun--except I can't walk that far. :( > > I'll be using these ideas--something has to force them into paying. I think it's outrageous what they're doing. > CindyH > Wisc. > > From: ngsamuelson > I'm so sorry to hear about your electric wheelcahair and insurance not paying for it. > >
