Guest guest
A worker on my uncle's farm died like that .. a PTO is a "Power Take-Off" generator that is hooked between the tractor and an implement like a soil turner or a rake. They are very powerful and should never be on unless they are shielded. After that incident, my uncle and grandfather took me to a safety demonstration at the farm store when I was a teen. The guy that was selling the PTO units had a 500 ft roll of twine, about the size of a shoelace or the string in a windbreaker jacket, wrapped around a big zucchini squash .. he turned on the PTO and dropped the end of the string onto the shaft.. it completely unrolled the string in less than a minute totally destroying the squash. He said if the squash had been someone's arm, it would have wrapped the arm around the shaft 9 times in one second. They are useful tools but very very dangerous.. I will never forget that demonstration. I feel so bad for your friend .. what a horrible way to die. I just hope it was quick. Guest guest
Hi , One of my sisters lost her husband in much the same manner.....He was driving a catterpillar with a disc attached to till the field getting it ready for a crop.......No one knows exactly what happened. They found the catterpillar and disc......at the far end of the field where it struck a ditch and sat there till it ran out of gas....... The body wasn't found for three days.....on the other side of the field where the tractor had stalled..... My sister was never the same....never got over her grief. I pray that your friend find some peace and solace in her life to see her through this tragedy. Lonewolf / C. Sad Our RN at works husband was killed friday in a farming accident. Guest guest
, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. My husband worked on farms around equipment like that for years & it always scared me to death. I'm glad he's not doing that now! I remember several years ago a teenager on a neighboring farm got his arm caught in a feed auger, which works similarly, it caught his sleeve pulling his arm in & around it. He lost the arm at the shoulder. He was 19 years old at the time. Fortunately there were others nearby who got help. Prayers for her & the family, > Our RN at works husband was killed friday in a farming accident.
