Although none of us likes the idea of our baby being cut on, my husband stayed

in and watched the procedure being done to our infant while I took our older

child to the hall way to wait. My husband says the tool used is extremely

tiny, almost a needle and it was over with almost instantly with only a small

prick. Our baby cried at being held down more than from being pricked in the

heels. He was fine afterwards, eating and acting normally. He healed nicely

with no complications (we lived three states away and left the day after the

procedure).

As for the sandles, those are the shoes. My son has been wearing

them for the past six months after serious complications formed from wearing the

normal shoe. The JM sandle has been a God-send for us and I highly recommend

them. My child has had NO complications from this shoe.

My daughter has done already the 3 casts with Dr. Calburn and now we

are going next time for tenatomy. He will make it w local

anastethia. Kindly advise if this is going to hurt her or not. I

tried to convince him to make it total anastethia but he refused and

insisted on local. It seems that it hurts the baby for somewhile.

Please tell me also what is needed for the baby after operation as

we will be travelling back directly after operation from Oakland to

orange county which takes around 6 hours.

Also, Have anyone heard about the new sandals that was produced

lately instead of the shoes. Does it have any drawbacks.

Any details will be most helpful

So is wearing the tiny infant size sandals? I'm still hoping to find

a second-hand pair as Everett is out growing his....anyone have a spare pair

they've outgrown yet?

had her tenotomy done at the University of Iowa under a local. Yes, she

did cry but it was more due to the betadine (sp?) prep they applied to her legs

prior to the tenotomy. It has alcohol in it and that seemed to sting quite a bit

on her sensitive legs. She did not cry when they actually did the tenotomy. From

what I have read and heard, it is much better to have it done with the local

then to put the child to sleep. There is a greater chance of having side effects

with putting the child to sleep. Some hospitals will not allow the doctors to

use a local, though. We had a 7 hour drive back to Ohio after her tenotomy and

slept most of the way. We did give her infant tylenol right after the

procedure. She tolerated everything very well. I was expecting her to be much

more fussy afterwards.

also has the sandals. In our very short experience with them,

they have been wonderful. has had no blisters or sores with the sandals.

I have not heard of any drawbacks with the sandals - other than insurance does

not cover them yet We do not have any experience with the other brace as

was put in the sandals from the start.

actually harder on the parents to watch our children having such procedures done

Yes - is in the smallest size sandal right now. I'm hoping has new

sandals made by next Wednesday for her appointment with Dr. Ponseti. I e-mailed

him new measurements and spoke to him on the phone but I'm not sure whether he

will have the sandals for us at her appointment. I have yet to hear anything

from him. She needs new sandals as her toes are starting to extend beyond the

front of her current sandals. Sorry we can't be of help with new sandals for

Everett.

Heidi,

When my daughter had her tenotomy done, she cried alot but was fine afterwards.

They gave her Tylenol with Codene and she took that for a day and then regular

tylenol for another day and she was done. If they have to put your baby under,

you can't feed them for several hours and it just makes it harder on everyone.

Rose has the standard Markell shoes and has done fine in them for the last year.

He, what time of day to you call ? I have tried e-mailing him with no

answer and I really need to get ahold of him. Kai's shoes still have a good 4

months or so of growth left in them, but his bar is aleady extended so that the

inside ends are flush with the black piece on either side (does this make any

sense) and he is really going to need a new bar in the next month or so. It

causes him great discomfort if it is even a fraction of a inch too short

I've called a couple of times but have never talked to him directly when I

call the first time. I usually have to leave a voice message or a message with a

family member. For the most part he usually calls me back. When I talked to him

about getting bigger sandals for he said that it would be best if I

e-mailed him the measurements. That was over a week ago and I have yet to hear

anything back. I asked him to reply to my e-mail so I at least know that he

got my message. I called him again today and had to leave a message.

I've always found that he answers the phone on Friday late afternoons. But then

that was during the school year - who knows if he has kids that would impact

that.

is a wonderful shoemaker. He's not the best with paperwork. If you keep

that in mind it makes it less frustrating. Hang in there!

We saw Dr. Colburn. He is wonderful. Our son, , had his tenotomy with

a local. He did cry at the time, but settled down quickly. My husband and I

were in the room when he had it done. It was so quick. It was almost quicker

than getting his shots. I was amazed. I was also amazed at how well he did

with it all. I expected to be in pain and cry a lot, but he seemed fine.

He took an extra long nap, wanted to be held most of that day and the next day

seemed fine. He didn't really need the Tylenol. loved his final casts.

He kicked his feet so much he softened the heals. I do have to admit that I was

a total mess. The baby did much better than I did. You are in good hands, Dr.

Colburn will take good care of you!

I just called. He is on vacation this week I really should have

gotten ahold of him sooner about this (needing a new bar) but I just

did not realize that Kai was going to grow this darn fast! We have

had to extend it out 3 inches in 2 months! Ahhh, well. the person

who answered the phone said that should be calling him this

afternoon and he would pass the message along.
