Dear ,

First of all, count me as one who is " not going to take it. " But we may not

have the same definition of that statement.

On my really bad bad days I truly wonder if this epidemic is intentional to keep

people so overwhelmed they cannot address all the other bad things that are

happening in this world. I agree with both you and . Something needs to

be done, but I cannot do it. I have been beaten down by the doctors who say

autism is behavioral and look at me like I'm crazy. Reading the editorials and

especially the responses in the Wall Street Journal re: parents of autistic

children gives me a taste of what is to come when this all does hit the fan. It

is absolutely frightening.

I spend my energy telling other parents of babies about what I know. I tell

everyone who will listen. Most people look at me like I am crazy. No one wants

to acknowledge that they live in a world where people can knowingly hurt babies.

I am painfully aware that it isn't enough. I am not asleep. I am watching a

waking nightmare. I don't know how the autism activists do it. I don't know

how Bradstreet and other physician/parents do it. I could not do it and still

take care of my children. There is nothing left to give up except our home. My

kitchen floor is sticky, I only work part time, our yard is overgrown. Things

like bills and working on specific things with the kids fall through the cracks.

People wonder why I can't get it all done...Even people who know our situation.

I am not whining, just telling it like it is. The truth is, it is only going to

get worse as an entire generation of children needs lifetime care. The budget

and deficit are bad now, but the worst is yet to come unless we do something.

(Probably even if we do something). I am fighting to help my children get to

the point where they can support themselves and be safe. It is taking every

ounce of energy I have.

Of course you are right. Someone needs to fight this fight. I have been trying

to come up with a way to finish this post......I'm sorry.

Hi List,

I have not read my mail for a few days and just started to read some of the

info. I have for the past 6 months been notifying people about what goes on

(with the vaccines) by placing a sign on my back windshield. This states "

www.cbcutah.com I have seen more people stop and read and also write down

the web-sites. By wording the notice this way you are not stating one way or

the other about how you feel about the vaccines( no one can sue you!) you

are mearly informming people as to what is actually going on out there. I

have been on the list for a long time and remember being as ticked of as all

of you are now.It was consuming me......at times it still does.This is what

motivates me to continue to do the thousands of hours worth of research to

heal my son.I tried notifying the televisions shows,(FOX<OPRAH< O " REILLY)

and also my newspapers(BOSTON GLOBE & NASHUA TELEGRAPH).They do not want to

hear about this and will not print whats happening to the extent that we

know it is due to being afraid of lawsuits.I now attend the hospital

meetings where the doctors are informed by the makers of the vaccines as to

just how safe they are. I stood up at the end of one talk and made a total

ass out of the speaker by spouting off research articles and doctors names

and what their findings were. You know what happened ?The doctors and nurses

ended up not believing the speaker and listening to me.They knew my info was

credible and his was biased. I did not tell them I had a child with vaccine

induced autism, I simply stated facts and they also did not know if I was a

nurse or doctor.These meetings are posted on the bulletin boards at all the

hospitals, so you will know when they are happening.I also tell every

pregnant woman I see that I have some information she may like to be

informed about regarding the health of her baby and hand her a piece of

paper with web-sites on it.Then I walk away.This has proven to work very

well because you are not coming off like a fanatic just a concerned parent.

Are you mad enough to support someone who works tirelessly and has

enacted legislation through his work that actually helps people

instead of the pharmaceutical industry? (Ralph Nader is responsible

for us having seat belts and/or air bags in our cars today.)

He is running for president as an independent. Kerry would be

no different than Bush on holding the pharmaceutical companies

responsible for their actions. All you have to do is look at the

money that he receives from campaign contributions to know the

outcome. I used to think that Democrats did more for us, ordinary

working people, than Republicans. But in 1992 when Clinton ran on

the premise that he would do something about the millions of

uninsured in this country and 1996 rolled around and insurance was

even worse, I finally saw the light. Both parties get their votes

from us but once in office serve nothing but business interests.

Let's fight the 2 party strangle hold in our country. We are a

democracy supposedly. Other democracies have more than just 2 hand

picked business candidates.

If you want to fight this injustice, you have to change the corrupt

system that allowed it to happen in the first place. That means

fighing against obcene(sic) corporate profits at the expense of our

children.

Let's do something for our childrens's future!

Does anyone know the house and senate bills that are being proposed

by Hillary Clinton and other Democrats that will effectively

eliminate our ability to buy supplements over the RDA levels and

will subject them to FDA reviews which will drive the prices even

higher? The pharmaceuticals are pushing this legislation so that we

won't even have the ability to try to fix our poisoned kids with

vitamins. We will be forced to drug them or do nothing. This is a

bill that needs to be stopped. There is no difference between

Republicans and Democrats. They do what the pharmaceutical industry

pays them to do.

That is exactly what I intend to do in April (together with going to DC for the

Unlocking Autism conference). I got the CDC to send me 50 copies of their

" Autism A.L.A.R.M. " flyer. They will be mailed to the pediatricians and family

practitioners in our area with a request for an appointment. At the appointment

I will have my son with me (it's going to be tough but they have to realize what

we go through every day). I will hand each and every one of them copies of the

different screening tests and then I will ask them to go through their vaccine

supply with me. I will also have some of the major research papers on hand. I

realize that I probably won't get very far with these MD's but I HAVE TO TRY!!!!

Nobody else is doing anything and I am tired of always being in tears or mad

when I read newspaper articles or research papers. During April I will also set

up big posters at the libraries in our county. This is where I have to be

careful with the vaccine issue, but I will be on-hand to

directly talk to concerned parents. I don't really have time for all of this,

but for every minute I spend working on it, the more I know that I am doing it

on behalf of my son. My car is also a driving warning label with statements on

it like this: " My son was vaccine damaged - is your child next? " ; " Think twice

before you vaccinate - research supports an autism/vaccine connection " . There

are so many different ways to get awareness out!!!!!

That is such a good idea, .

I was approached by an employee from the health department regarding some of my

stickers on my car (especially the one listing all the nasty vaccine

ingredients). She was outright hateful toward me. Finally I just told her that

it was considered freedom of speech and there was not a darn thing she could do

about it. Then I left. I do not have the time for her ignorant attitude and she

is not important to me. Letting all the parents out there know what can happen

to their children is what is important. My stickers have also had a good effect

because some people have come up to me and asked all kinds of questions.

BTW: One of my stickers says " Autism Emergency Response Vehicle " Autism IS an

emergency and I AM responding to it!!!!!!

something about it gives me confirmation that there are lots of

I'm glad to hear that you are seeing that there is a lot

" going on " . I think there is a lot, but of course, anyone

involved in that " lot " probably feels that twice as much

would be not nearly enough.

There are some " political " autism lists. One is:

There are tons and tons of posts on this list about

who to write letters to in the media (to respond to media

articles). People often

post their responses to articles with poor information.

People also post about legislation that is pending.

Started a number of years ago by several parents who

wanted to make the world safer for babies. One of

those parents (Lyn Redwood) also started this list.

Another (Sallie Bernard) still posts here often.

Safe Minds writes WONDERFUL responses to the media

(often on " technical " issues about thimerosal and

misinformation in reporting of studies). These

may be worth your time to go back and read -- you

may find that " one of us " has been talking back

to the media for some time, and really articulately.

In addition to the flood of press that we would

both consider " unfortunate " or " misleading " or

" very incomplete " , there have also been more than

a few really " good coverage " articles and news

stories (on TV) that have been posted here.

True, these are the minority, but there are some.

I'm several days behind on reading)-- so I apologize if

I've repeated stuff that has already been listed.

I would also point out that I am poorly informed in

this area, I just see a lot of this stuff in passing,

I just listed some things that came to mind.

Oh, there have also been some autism rallies in Washington

DC (I'm sure you can find pictures still!)-- yes-- You have

LOTS of company as an angry parent.

Finally, before I send this, I want to say that I think

that action to help ourselves and/or our own children

is a critically important action. I applaud BOTH the

people who write letters and fund political action AND

the people who wisely conserve their energy by NOT

doing this. That may sound contradictory to you, but

so be it. People do a lot of different things to make

the world a better place.... trying to help one child

takes a lot of energy, will, time, energy, money......

and it is not often fast or easy. That can certainly

also be said for legal matters and legislative ones.

You want to know what I am sick of? The fact that when our kids are sick

enough, as mine is right now, to require hospitalization, the 800 pound

gorilla in the room is these damned vaccines. is a " normal " 17 year

old now, but he is still screwed, because the shots he should never have

gotten in the first place have wreaked havoc with his immune system, and

they steal his body from him one piece at a time. I posted this because I

think you'd all be proud of him this past week. He is in a university

" teaching hospital " due to a colitis flare, and a group of drs cornered him

in his room over the weekend. They heard that he's speaking in Pa. next

month about what has helped him overcome autism, and yes, the v word will be

mentioned. Thye drs asked what has helped the most, and Mike listed a few

things. And then, one arrogant SOB said, " so Mike, tell me, of the things

that have been done for you that are " western medicine " what has helped you

the most? " His answer was to look the dude directly in the eyes and say

" none of them. " Maybe what we need to do is get 50 Mikes to go around the

country and talk about the hell that they've been through-and how our

fearless leaders have covered it up.

I think we all need to join a class action suit not for mercury, not for

vaccines, but for diascrimination-our kids are being discriminated against

because everyone they come into contact with is trying to cover up that 800

I am glad to hear that your are so involved! I think doing the local

advertisements in the newspaper is great. My only draw back is when the prices

increase from $200 to $1k. Like most parents, my funds go to ABA, supplements,

chelation, organic special diet and so on. Taking money away from my child's

treatment is not an option for me. Can we all at least agree to do one thing as

a group now and work towards funding for future media coverage afterward? I

know parents that gotten money by doing fund-raisers. That is something that

can help with advertisements at some point.

segment the week before last on " Prescriptions and Profit " ...the

segment surely made big pharma, who typically advertises on CBS,

very angry. CBS did it anyway.

The best media attention we've ever received was during the Homeland

Security scandal. But that, in their minds, was extremely

newsworthy. Also, it was something the reporters could " get " and

absorb. In all honesty, and even some reporters will admit this,

this issue is a hard subject to grasp and articulate. They need the

facts to back up what they're saying and some may be too lazy to get

the facts, or not understand them enough to do a good story.

I was waiting to do this until next week, but now's as good of time

as any. Being someone who has literally worked on this stuff for two

years...non-stop...I know that advertising is our best bet. We

simply can't keep relying on media as our sole remedy. Advertising

worked last year when we advertised in DC...it got certain senate

staffers interested in speaking with us. But it takes money. One

person on this board came to me with an excellent idea

recently...small ads for small newspapers that are cost-effective

for everyone to place their own ad in their own paper. Great idea!

Now, we would be supplying you with the ad if you want it. We will

also tell you how to call the paper to place the ad. I live in

Raleigh/Durham...to place a 1/8 page ad in some of the smaller

newspapers in outlying areas would cost around $200 to $300 bucks.

Well, I can afford that so I'll do it. But, will all of you? People

can chip in $50...friends, family, other parents. Will you do this?

About writing letters to your reps...YES, that's always good. I will

say that you shouldn't bother bombarding Kennedy...he's already on

our side and has proved it in many ways. Would probably be better to

bombard Kerry. We don't know where he stands on this issue.

Unless the CDC, government, medical industry, etc., feels the

pressure of public opinion, they're NOT going to care as much as we

want them to. Public outcry, which could only come from constant,

frequent, level-headed communication to the public, will help

enormously. So far, we don't have it. It will have to take

advertising to get it.

There are also other things we can do which is a guarantee. Some

news services out there offer Video News Release (VNR's), Radio News

Releases (RNR's) and other means to reach the public. BUT IT TAKES

MONEY. We could get a :60 Radio News Release out to hundreds of

radio networks which would reach millions of people and it only

costs $2800. That's doable...except non-profit orgs can only spend

so much money on political issue-based efforts. This is why we need

all of you! We can get a media tour...12 to 17 interviews...the

interviews would go out to hundreds of radio networks and millions

of people. That costs $5000. I can't afford that...and the non-

profit org can't pay for it if it's political or issue-based. A VNR

is something big pharma has all the time...basically it's a paid-for

news segment satellite fed to hundreds of local broadcast

affiliates. That can cost $20,000. We can't afford it---I wish we

could.

I was about to pay for a full-page ad in Pediatrics Journal...$3500

to ask pediatricians to please use vaccines that contain absolutely

no thimerosal...encouraging them to read the labels and thanking

them for doing so. My ad was rejected...they still haven't given me

a reason. This was something else we were going to ask of all of you-

--to fax this ad (we would link it so you can print it) to all the

pediatricians in your area. If we can stop ONE child from getting

mercury, it'd all be worth it.

I'd love to hear if any of you would be interested in helping with

things like this. Would you? It's good to be angry...a cool

angry...a smooth angry, not a radical angry, but the kind that backs

those people into a corner and wins us public opinion.

We could start local cable shows. In my neck of the woods it costs

somewhere around $30 to take a class on how to use the equip, then

you get your weekly segment (if I was told correctly). Coordinate

several towns with the same time slot the same night/day each week

and focus on similar topics. Sure, it's not regular tv, but it's

something that is surely to draw media attention if enough towns

discuss it long enough. Low cost publicity where we would control

what is shown, not slanted media.

I don't see my post, so here it goes again. Some of us could get

slots in local cable stations at the same time/same night each week.

If I have correct info it's only like $30 to take a one-time class

on it, then you get your slot. We could coordinate each week what

info to discuss. It might not be well-viewed as Oprah, but if we got

enough slots in enough towns, it would surely pick up steam. And, we

wouldn't be dependent on media to angle it from their agendas. And,

it's cheap, cheap, cheap!!

A little bird tells me that the way to get through to Kerry is through Senator

Kennedy. Ted is a direct man and can cut right through all the campaign staffer

sideshow. What we need is a high volume of people in our community to pledge

their votes *if* Senator Kerry, will help us change things, preserve our

I couldn't agree more. My recovering 18yr old understands what kind

of treatment she received from the mainstream too. When she was 12

the pediatrician said this child is depressed. The entire way home

my child cried, " I'm NOT depressed, I AM sick. " Yesterday she was

angry that her friend was seen by a psychiatrist for as she said " a

whole 30 minutes and already their answer is anti-anxiety pills and

anti-depressants. They don't know MOM! " Children have been given

horrible medical treatment or non-medical treatment or actually

abused by this entire (pharma) system!

Here is my two cents.

Public exposure can bring about change. It is great to get in contact with your

governmental representatives but to get them fired up about an issue you have to

get their constituents involved. Media coverage, in my opinion, is the best

way. Media coverage that is national is the best.

April is Autism Awareness month, as we all know. All the parents and advocates

on this site (and other autism sites) can email their stories to Dateline, Oprah

and so on. We can a pick a day this month and send our stories to these media

forums. All these shows want ratings and 3,000 plus people have rating power!

We can all use our child's name in the title of the emails and then add on

" Autism Awareness Month. " I believe that as Americans and other countries see

people like them, with autistic family members, they will want to get involved.

I know that this sounds very trivial but it is so simple it probably will work.

I have seen enough stories about doctors telling us that vaccines (mercury, MMR,

milk allergies and so on) have nothing to do with autism.

Every April, just like Breast Cancer, MS and so on, the world should be informed

about autism. DAN doctors and people like and Serrousi should be

household names. And the early signs of autism, PDD and so on should be as

common as a mammogram.

Sorry forgetting off the subject a little. But awareness brings about change

and local awareness is not enough. Lets all take the time to pick a day, media

forum and write our stories including all the tests and onset.
