Too much of it that is. just from what i have read. I AM NOT AN EXPERT.
Guest guest
I'm not an expert either, and I would also hesitate in giving melatonin unless your child needs it for sleep problems. It is a hormone and most bottles say not to use it for children... > > I bought a book called The Melatonin Miracle, it is very informative if you > live in mass, you are more than welcome to it, it has gotten me started on > .5mg > a night but I think it isnt good for kids. > > Too much of it that is. > > just from what i have read. > > I AM NOT AN EXPERT. >
Guest guest
Melatonin is only supposed to be given at night- 1/2 hour before bed. [ ] melatonin - is it a good supplement for ASD kid? Hi, I read that ASD kids need to be supplemented with melatonin. I give my 35lb son .5mg 2x per day. He seems do do well on it, but I am wondering if there are any negatives to this? Thanks =======================================================
Guest guest
I see your 5 yr old weighs 75 lbs. Is he just big for his age- ? If you are feeding him the appropriate amount of healthy foods and monitoring his caloric intake, and yet he is heavy, you may want to try L-carnitine. Guest guest
I agree melatonin should only be given at night. I've noticed when I miss giving it to my son, he has a terrible day at school, really agitated. It helps him to get the deep sleep he needs for his body to recover from that days exhaustion. He has bursts of hyperactivity, not constant but I wouldn't suggest giving a child melatonin for hyperactivity during the day, I think it would throw the sleep rythm off. My son is autistic as well. --- Cj <gstone98@...> wrote: > Melatonin is only supposed to be given at night- 1/2 > hour before bed. > > [ ] melatonin - is it a good > supplement for ASD kid? > > > Hi, > I read that ASD kids need to be supplemented with > melatonin. > I give my 35lb son .5mg 2x per day. > He seems do do well on it, but I am wondering if > there are any > negatives to this? > Thanks > > > > > ======================================================= >
Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group, my name is Tami and my son is 4 years old and autistic. a lot of parents (including us) found out that when they give the kids melatonin, it improves eye contact. it turns out that melatonin is a very powerful anti-oxidant and has almost 6 times the power of glutathione. I heard of a protocol in which you are supposed to give the kid .5 mg in the morning to regulate sleep cycles (which are problematic in many of our kids), and then another dose in the evening (up to 3 mg). for us, this protocol didn't work. some people, including my son, seem to develop tolerance to melatonin over time, and then it is recommended to give it 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. when giving melatonin to regulate sleep, you should give it at the same time every night and then turn the lights off and not let the kid run around. never be tempted to give them melatonin when they wake up at night, as this may mess up their sleep cycle! as far as I know, numerous studies were done on melatonin and found no adverse reactions even in very high doses. hope it helps. Guest guest
Never give melatonin during the day. it will screw up his bodyclock and upset night sleeps. give it just before bedtime. If he wakes up too early keep some by your bed - if you get up during the night give him another shot, but not after 3am as that will make him sluggish during the day Steve

Guest guest
Never give more than 3 mg a night. Melatonin should never be taken during the day. It makes kids sleepy.
