Guest guest
Hi Sherlyn, We do a lot of freezing ourselves. We have a 2 1/2 acre garden, and at times I'd like to see it all rot. LOL! Just kidding-it is a lot of work, but the rewards are great. We purchased a large freezer about 2 years ago-a year after we started the garden. It's a lot of fun, not to mention exercise and incredible food! Last year we also added fruit trees and bushes-apple, pear, peach, blackberries and grapes. I can't wait until they all mature! We grow just about every type of vegetable imaginable except for corn-we didn't have any luck with it 2 years in a row, so we didn't bother this year. As far as the meat, we don't eat a *whole* lot of meat, but we do take advantage of specials and stock up. We also get about 4 deer a year so they do into the freezer as well as the fish we catch. Transplated from Philadelphia, PA, four years ago, this " country life " is all still new to me, but I am enjoying it immensely! Congrats on all your healthy habits and exericise. I hope your pickles are fantastic! Autumn On Fri, 22 Aug 2003 09:42:40 -0600 " Sherlyn Carberry " writes: Hi all, Well, I'm busy freezing corn this morning. I need to break down & go buy a deep freeze - if one plants a huge garden, and then one expects to freeze a bunch of their produce, they need a big freezer, plus I'm thinking of maybe trying to buy our beef or pork at half an animal at a time. I hear you get better meat at a better price that way. As soon as I'm done with the corn, I need to start in on the beans, and then the tomatoes are starting to come on, and I'm hoping to can a bunch of those. I've already canned 24 pints of beets, and 5 quarts of pickles with a bunch more pickles coming on. My " pickle " cucumbers are so fat - one pickle cut in spears fills an entire quart jar! I haven't tried any yet - they need to set in the jar for at least a week to become " dill " so I'm anxiously awaiting the first pickle Well, I've made horrible eating choices all week. I even went out for dinner last night, and it is impossible as far as I know to try and eat low sodium when out at a restaurant. I talked to DH about it this morning. That I did at least make better choices than I made last time I went to that restaurant, and I am still walking 2 miles per day, that eventually I will lose some weight, and eventually my bp will get better. I know that is what is important in the long run, but I sure wish I could drop some actual pounds in the next month or two. It would really make it easier to stick with this new lifestyle I'm trying to live with. So today I'm back to writing down each milligram of sodium that I put in my mouth - that seems to the only way I keep myself honest. Today is another day right? Guest guest
My blood pressure is high - especially the bottom number, and the easiest way to lower your bp is to lower your sodium intake. I tried the diuretic method, (doctor prescribed), and hated it and how it made me feel, so I'm trying to lower it through diet & exercise. The way it makes me lose weight, is that to stay within a 1500 mg diet, that eliminates almost all prepared foods & restaurants, leaving you with fresh whole foods which are better for you most of the time anyway. Just curious - and I apologise if you've already explained this - but why are you counting sodium, and how is it related to you trying to lose weight? Guest guest
i think if you don't have enough room many of us are willing to have you ship it to us. lol you are doing good. once in a while bad eating is okay in moderation you know what you did and you will get back on track. > Hi all, > > Well, I'm busy freezing corn this morning. Guest guest
Good Morning Everyone! Just wanted to say thanks for everyone here. I haven't had a chance to post much and I am so far behind on reading emails. I haven't answered alot but to those of you that have lost I am cheering for you but a little behind. For those of us who stay the same and gained a little. Keep going, it will happen. I hope to have more time this week to answer posts but knowing me, it will not happen. I stepped on the scales this morning but I couldn't tell whether I lost or gained and the little lines are too close together. I think I shall purchase a new scale as this one is 10 years old and getting harder and harder to read. I was thinking of getting a digital that reads lbs and oz. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the great articles Gena! I have saved some for rereading when I need a boost. Any way my coffee is finished so now it is time to go work out. Catch you all later. 184/178/

Due to this last class crossed with life in general, I have found myself highly stressed out and not taking good care of myself. It has been such a challenge to stay on top of things. I need all of you so much. I have been so unmotivated for myself and balancing life and myself is a difficult thing to get used to. I am going to fall again and thats ok, it's how fast I get back up that matters I guess. SO! I need your help to bounce back up and start running again. I hope I can be as much of a help to you as you have and will be for me. Thank you for listening!!! Anyone up for a kick start exercise and protein train?? I am starting this morning.
