Guest guest
I too had NO LUCK with any kind of guidance or advice from my surgeon. Really honked me off. I take a regular pre-natal vitamin which is prescribed by my doctor 2 times a day. I just use a pill cutter and cut it in 1/2. This has worked pretty well for me. Annette Levitt prenatal vitamins OK, I have a bit of a roadblock here. I called my surgeon yesterday, and the dietician they have now is a ditz. I asked her to advise me a good prenatal vitamin that was either chewable, or smaller than the rest, and she didn't know. In fact, she told me to research it on the Web myself! Ughh. So much for my surgeon helping me, too, as the Wish Center has expanded, and the surgeon who did me is in Seattle, and I'm in Chicago. Maybe it's my hormones, but I'm ready to scream at them for their lack of helpfulness. Can anyone suggest a brand of prenatal vitamins that they were able to take that aren't the size of horse pills? I'm so afraid of taking anything, because I really haven't swallowed a pill more than 1mm big since surgery 18 months ago. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!! Guest guest
I never took a prenatal vitamin with any of my pregnancies... it's a personal choice. I did eat healthy...and took a multivitamin daily...and took an additional folic acid the first 12 weeks (biggest difference between a prenatal vitamin and a multivitamin is folic acid)... but that's it. It's a very personal choice. Guest guest
, Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any prenatal vitamins that are small in size or chewable. I had my procedure in November of 2001 for some time I was afraid of swallowing " horse pills " but it came to the point that I just had to give it try if I were to get the necessary nutrients. I started taking prenatals in March and starting trying to conceive in late May and I haven't had ANY trouble getting them down. Just remember to drink a significant amount of water with them. I take Precare Caplets. I wouldn't say they are " horse pills " but they are bigger than a Tylenol. Your OB should have samples at their office that you could try before filling a prescription for something you might not be able to swallow. Good Luck!!! Guest guest
I didn't realize that they made chewables. That is great!!! Are they flavored? I worked in a pharmacy up until a couple of years ago and I have NEVER heard of those. Do you know if they are new?!?! , sorry....I didn't realized they made chewable prenatals. This is wonderful news for you and those that can't or don't want to swallow pills. Hugs, 11-21-01 324/170 Sierra 8-14-98 EDD #2 3-28-04 RE: prenatal vitamins : I take NataChews. Guest guest
Hi ! I take PreCare Chewables. Easy to take taste wise & have not made me sick at all : ) Judy > OK, I have a bit of a roadblock here. I called my surgeon yesterday, > and the dietician they have now is a ditz. Guest guest
My ob gave me " precare chewables " and " duet chewables " to try. He said to call him with the one I liked best and he would call in a prescription. The Duet brand is awful! Precare chewables are much easier to take, especially taste wise. Guest guest
Ahh... I don't take an extra multi-vitamin, just the two natachews. Well, I take an additional 3 mg of folic acid, sublingual B-12 3x week (1000mg), calcium citrate, and amnio acids.... probably too much stuff, but hey... if it helps...! :~) Sharon Haley said: > I only take one a day in addition to my multi-vitamin. > > Haley > Post Op RNY/March 21, 2003 > EDD December 27, 2003 > > RE: prenatal vitamins > > > Haley, > > I take natachews, too... Guest guest
It depends on if you take an additional multi-vitamin or not. If you do, I wouldn't bother taking two... if you don't, DEFINATELY take two!! I take one every 12 hours, for maximum absorbtion. It's the only thing that seems to keep my vitamin levels in the normal range! :~) Sharon Sauer said: > should i be taking 2 a day??????? > > RE: prenatal vitamins > > > Haley, > > I take natachews, too... Guest guest
LOL! Natachews taste like grape sweetarts to me! More sweet than tart... adn are actually pretty good. They don't taste " vitaminy " and I don't burp vitamins all day after taking them. :~) Nice, huh! :~) L Tims said: > I didn't realize that they made chewables. That is great!!! Are they > flavored? Guest guest
> Can anyone suggest a brand of prenatal vitamins that they were able > to take that aren't the size of horse pills? Can't help you too much here, but I take the Embrex prenatal and it's a fairly large pill, but easy for *me* to swallow qith lots of water. I selected it after researching several vit.s and chose it because the calcium and prenatal are packaged as two separate supplements thereby preventing the iron/calcuim absorption problem and allowing me to substitute the contained carbonate calcium with citrate (which I purchase separately at Walmart). Someone else asked about whether they should take one or two prenatals. I've posted this before but wanted to again remind our wonderfully supportive cybersisters that every person's absorption will vary based on the type of procedure, length bypassed (if RNY) and other surgical factors and we shouldn't assume that what works for us will also work for someone else. Let your body and doctor be your guide. If you think you may not be getting enough in supplements, ask for a blood screen to be certain. We want happy, healthy mommies and babies around here and although well intended by our cyber friends, sometimes you have to go with what the professionals say! (grin) Mom to Dejah (4) and Soon...
