Test before your eat and then take a note of what you eat. Then test 1 hour

afterwards and then 2 hours afterwards. You have to experiment to see what

effects your BG levels but other things come into play as well. Weight,

stress, time and portion sizes all have a bearing.

Fwd: A1C testing..- eating

I have not looked at how foods react to my bg. How does one get

started? Do you just write down everything you ate and then test 2

hours after? How do you know which food raised the bg?

Carol,

Is your insurance not giving you enough strips or are they giving you what

the doctor put on a script? My dr put 4x/day testing necessary and that is

what the ins co is paying. If the dr only put 2x/day, ask him for another

script reflecting an increase in daily testing. That may be all your ins co

needs. You have to check your policy to find out, I guess.

See if the issue is what your doctor has prescribed (i.e., to test 2 times a

day)... if that is not the issue, Walgreens has a 'store brand' meter that

is made by TrueTrack. The meter is only $18 and you can get 100 strips for

about $50 (that's about 1/2 the price of the name brand meter strips).

This way, if you have to pay for some of the strips out of pocket, you can

at least do it cheaper.

All meters are (should) be calibrated to within +-3% irrespective of how

much they cost and some are supplied with a test solution for periodic

checking.
