Guest guest
Comme d'habitude, cette observation manque d'a-propos (This remark is not to the point (is irrelevant)...Mais ici encore il faut se mefier (But here again one must be careful) ...Il y a bon nombre de gens qui sont de cet avis (there are plenty of people who think so). It all makes me think of those faraway days when we at school would be ROFLOL making situations out of some of this lot; (situations which various teachers considered La situation, de l'aveu general, laisse beaucoup a desirer) there is precious little on le francais de NCT which perhaps we should build a file of; for les vacances en France. For one thing, hardly any of them breastfeed, so I do think we should try to build up a little armoury of les mots, for the evangelisation of les Francais. Come to think of it, there was a remark recently about the American tv programmes on childbirth, and I wondered whether we shouldn't transport some NCT evangelism over there as well, and start up the NCT en Amerique. (a serious point).... Amies....... Caro Heyworth

Les Francais probably have breastfeeding rates about like the UK, ditto the US (where the La Leche League dominates the breastfeeding charity market). In France, beaucoup de new mothers start out with l'allaitement, but then are informed their baby isn't getting enough to eat, would sleep through the night if fed formula, it would cure their PND to stop, etc. Along with formula companies giving free formula to the hospitals to hand out (don't know if they still do this) and lack of support for breastfeeders, it's only a bit worse than here (where I had only vaguely heard of the NCT, and never heard of NCT BFCs, while I was having trouble). Evangelising might not be the way - maybe training breastfeeding counsellors and advertising them heavily in the hospitals. Phyllis
Guest guest
Ma chere Caroline, J'espere que vos etudes n'ont coute vos parents trop cher! What was your advanced Harraps dictionary doing in your shed? (La emise) and I think the word you were looking for was bijoux (gems) not jouailles!! ) To breastfeed is nourrir au sein, le Fideicommis National d'Accouchement is the catchy translation of NCT and of course we would all campaign for le choix informe. Vive le FNA! I think Les Etats Unis as our US cousines like to be known does have its own FNA. Quant a la France, c'est le berceau de Michel Odent.... Chere , LOL (ROF) tristement *tres* cher! Isn't there some expression about throwing good money after bad that lurks on the edge of my consciousness - unfortunately not well enough educated to have developed a good memory!! Sue asked what am I on: chocolate macaroons (gluten free diet!!!) yippeeee!!! and SUNSHINE at last!!!!! in Surrey... ....and it is the weekend... > > What was your advanced Harraps dictionary doing in your shed? (La > emise) Not enough room in the house for all the books which accompanied us from the mansarde or grenier enorme en notre maison a Londres (what's the difference, except perhaps grenier is for gluten products?), when we moved dix-huit months ago, the really dire thing is that it wasn't just the harraps Fr Vocab for A Level, all my lovely Wests have been languishing and catching a mould *grinding of teeth* > > To breastfeed is nourrir au sein, Vive le FNA! > > I think Les Etats Unis as our US cousines like to be known does have > its own FNA. Quant a la France, c'est le berceau de Michel Odent.... ..... mais j'ai entendue parler que *personne* (a Paris) nourrit au sein? Peut-etre il y a vignt-cinq annees. Je m'excuse, you can see I haven't resorted to the dictionary. Well it would be good to hear that things had changed in the breast direction. amities, grands copains!! err Caro off to prepare for invasion by London bookgroup tonight (another reason for high spirits)...which draws me on to another e mail ..... and rightly so... and, strange to say ... let it not be thought that... one is tempted to conclude that .... a mon avis (AMA)

I started a weather chart for DS at the beginning of the month and thought I would run out of clouds and rain for it, but lo and behold sunshine even though a tad chilly.
