All of these tumors are smaller in size now. The side effects I experienced were some swelling, slight facial paralysis, and headaches. If you want more information, feel free to contact me. Diane R. Guest guest
hi Dianne, can I ask, what made you blind? I am getting along pretty good. now that is an understatement, you are very impressive. R> Dr. Ebersold surgically removed three tumors in my head in the past. He is no longer at the Mayo Clinic and is working somewhere in Wisconsin. I think Dr. Link has taken his place. I am sure the next time I need a tumor surgically removed, Dr. Link will be my neurosurgeon. Even though I am totally blind in both eyes, deaf in my right ear, hearing loss in my left ear (wear a hearing aid on that side), balance problems, tenitis, etc., I am getting along pretty good. Have a nice night. Hope to talk to you again. Diane ---- Original Message ----- To: NF2_Crew Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2002 4:52 PM Subject: Re: gamma knife Hi Diane; I go to Mayo, Rochester. Guest guest
Hello Diane and thanks for mailing. You're blind? How well are you seeing this? Also; re: your surgeries, were the ANs removed or GK'd? Sorry to read of your many challenges. Sounds as though your attitude is still upbeat though. Best Wishes to you Diane! Guest guest
Hi Russ, Since I am totally blind in both eyes, I see nothing. I am very thankful though that I was able to see for 14 years. You are probably wondering how I am able to read the computer screen. I use a screen reader speech software program, JAWS. It reads to me whatever is on the screen, will say whatever I am typing, etc. It works great for me! Regarding my acoustic neuromas: In 1984, a right acoustic neuroma was surgically removed. I lost the hearing in that ear. In 1991, a left acoustic neuroma was treated with gamma knife. I have a hearing loss in that ear, but I wear a hearing aid which helps. In 1997, a right acoustic neuroma was treated with gamma knife. I was already deaf in that ear. Hope things are going well for you. Have a nice day. Talk to you soon. Guest guest
Hi Rosemary, I had a large (lemon-size) meningioma surgically removed in 1979. The tumor was causing intracranial pressure and damaged the optic nerves. That is the reason for my blindness. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask. Talk to you soon.
