Hello and welcome back!!

You have shared some very important information and hopefully opened up the

eyes of many rookies about how important the shoes and bar are!!! Glad to

see you back.

Charity and Trenton (8-24-00)

AKA: Christmas in IOWA 2000

It's Tina and Kavan from Indiana... remember

us???

Wow! Its been a long time since I have been here, way to long. I am

hoping that , and both Theresa's and others may remember me and

Kavan's story. For those of you who don't, here is a brief synopsis:

My name is Tina Byrd, I am the mother of eight wonderful kids:

Kassandra (13)

Kameron (11)

Korbin ( 9)

Kristianna( 8)

Kataryna and KAVAN (3 y.o. b/g twins)

Kaleb ( 2)

Konnor (13 mos.)

*My husband, kids and I live in Muncie, IN, very near the campus of

Ball State University and approx. one hour north of Indianapolis, IN.

Our twin son Kavan was born with bilateral clubfoot on 6-25-00. We

initially sought tx from a local orthopod who believed in the 'Kite'

method and unsuccessfully manipulated and casted our son for over six

weeks with short leg casts. At the end of the time, I was frustrated

and discouraged and found Dr. Ponseti ( a long story). The next week

we were off to Iowa! Kavan was successfully treated and was

an 'example baby' for over 30 orthopods from all around the country

when he had his tenotomy. We fell deeply in love and grateful to Dr.

Ponseti and continued to stay in touch with him and his wife.

Kavan's big claim to fame is that he on the UPPER, RIGHT corner of

the Ponseti Quilt that adorns the ortho clinic at the U of I hospital!

I was able to start a local support group of sorts and helped four

others from our area avoid the same fate we had encountered and even

had the pleasure of personally taking two of them to Iowa!

AFter a rough couple of years and two more babies after the twins, I

drifted away from being online (mostly due to time constraints of

being a stay at home momma of 8 active blessings under age 13!) and

therefore lost contact with all of my old friends at this site, I am

just hoping you will remember me!

We unfortunately experienced a setback and last week made our first

trek back to Iowa in almost 2 years. Kavan had regressed and is back

in casts at 3 1/2 years. OUr local orthopod felt that he was ready

to come out of the bar at 32 months of age, and due to the craziness

of our life at that time, I did NOT make the trip to Iowa that I

should of and went with the local opinion, instead of PAPA PONSETI

that I only trusted previous to that. Kavan went into a HUGE growth

spurt at that time as well, and Dr. Ponseti feels that surely had a

lot to do with the regression. Although he did RIGHTLY chastise me

for my poor decision regarding the bar...I so feel like I let my

precious son and Dr. P. down.

IN any event, I used to be a huge part of this site and would like to

be again!

I accidentally registered for the wrong site when trying to join last

week, so both Theresa's please disregard the repeat info and thanks

so much for your posts! I did not get the post until after Iowa trip

however, and that is why I did not respond to you (Jakob's

momma.. btw, congrats on baby #2 on the way!)

are you still around? I remember my sweet friend with baby

Eisabella, although her momma's name has left me (stinks to be memory

challenged at 37!), can anyone help me there?

My email is: kbyrd915@... and I would love to hear from my

old friends and look forward to getting to know all the rest of you!

Thanks and it is good to be back!

Dr. Ponseti say about what's needed? Keep in touch.. as much as you

can. Best wishes for Kavan to do well.. and to the rest of your

family. You're an amazing mom.. and so richly blessed!

Take care and talk to you soon,

Tina,

Welcome back. It is good to hear from you. Please come and visit

the site occasionally and keep us updated. There has been a lot of

transition in the medical community towards the Ponseti method over

the past few years that you may not be aware of.

Hi, Tina!

I'm so glad you're back! I thought of you often! Last time

we " talked " you were pregnant with Kaleb! I am sorry that Kavan had

a relapse. Was your local doctor using the ponseti method? I hope

that casting will be successful. Are you scheduled to go back to

Iowa soon?

Email me any time!

Regards,
