may be a concern but :

A)if you are a major bleeder then adjust down early (two or three

days). otherwise so you bleed a bit extra .

B) If the bleeding thing is not a huge concern (you may bleed a fair

bit)

knock off the coumadin after the morning dose , the day before of the

procedure.

C) If you are really worried about the stroke risk:take at least 3/4

of your dose the day before. Then you can take a double the recommended

amount (on the bottle) of " green " suplement the night before (there

at many groceries and health food stores everywhere )

In each case take the meds with you and pop one as soon as the

bleeding stops. If you are at risk(stroke ) extra dose by 50% on the

morning then go regular.

I think this is safe advise but i am not a Doctor your cardio gave you

a fairly standard recommendation for average risk folks.

Don,

Ask your Cardiologist. Mine has always OK'd it. Your INR will definitely drop,

but you don't want excessive bleeding during any dental surgery. As I

understand low INR would only be a problem if you had an Afib episode that

pumped out a clot after you converted to NSR that might cause a Stroke.

I also have to take a 4 100MG Amoxcilin Capsules one hour before I have my teeth

cleaned and most other dental procedures to be sure no infection goes to my

heart which has two stents.

I need to have a wisdom tooth extracted on Tuesday. Cardio says drop

warfarin for four days before the procedure and start up again immediately

following it. Have others experienced this routine? I am concerned about

the INR dropping below 2.0, which is most likely to be the case.

Don - are you in permanent afib? If not, then dropping below 2 shouldn't be a

problem if you start up again after the procedure. If you are in permanent

afib, or in afib often each day, then you should talk to your doctor about an

alternate blood thinnner.. like lovenox.

Correction to my message below. The Dentist and Cardiologist have me take 4

500MG (not 100MG) capsules of Amoxicilin before most Dental Procedures including

cleaning, but this due to the two stents I have and not due to the Afib

episodes.
