Guest guest
Hello, Must say that I have been an observer to this site for several weeks and have felt like I got such great information from all. This site is such a blessing! We just saw the neurosurgeon after the referral from the ped. The neurosurgeon said my daughter's (6 mo) plagio was considered a mild case and that if we did nothing, the improvement in the shape of her head would improve 5%. If we went with helmet therapy, that it would be 30-40% improvement. My husband and I both thought this percentage was disappointing. Is that the standard improvement scale most have been given? I understand her head shape wouldn't be perfect, but I was hoping for 70-80% instead! Could it be perhaps because he considered her case mild? Everyone that looks at her has said, she doesn't like to be on her tummy, does she? So it's pretty obvious that she's got plagio (but it's exaggerated by the fact that she has no hair! If anyone has heard about different results and percentages, I would be interested. Our appointment with Hanger is on Friday. Thanks! Guest guest
I'm not really sure how to assess those percentages. I wasn't given any percentages like that. It sounds like 5% natural improvement is not very promising either, so in comparison, 30-40% sounds great. I know when I was debating banding, I told myself I would be thrilled with a 25% correction, due to my son's age. So if he started at 15mm assym, I'm hoping for him to finish close to 11mm, and anything after that will be a blessing (40% would take him to 9mm so I'd be really happy with that, but again, I expect less because of his age). I'm not sure what I would have expected if my son was younger and his head more moldable. I hope some other moms can weigh in for you. If they have their beginning and ending measurements, they can better judge what kind of percentage might be considered " normal. " Also, the ortho at Hanger could probably shed some light on the subject. Good luck! Guest guest
I can only speak from our experience...but I would say that my son improved probally 60 to 70 %...one of his eyes was differently shaped than the other and that looks almost perfect now (maybe a little forhead prominence on one side...I think only I can see that) but the back of his head is still not where it should be...he is 1 1/2 now...he was on the edge of mild and severe. He started at about 6 1/2 months and wore 2 bands by CT for a total of 6 months. I think he would have improved more if we had started the band earlier like 4 months...I should have trusted my instinct and just gone with it! The quicker the better for improvement with the band (or repositioning...the same concept applies). Good luck with your decision. > > Hello, > Must say that I have been an observer to this site for several weeks and have felt like I got > such great information from all.
