Guest guest
Although I can understand that - how do you know that you aren't ingesting shampoo when you are showering? There have been many, many times that when I rinse my hair I think I have gotten shampoo or conditioner in my mouth. And although it might be a minute amount, if you do it everyday it could be harmful....right? \ I emailed to find out if they contain gluten- They do. The company actually told me that they consulted doctors and that because it is only a little gluten it will not hurt. Ya...good thing it is not my first day or I might have believed that one. Guest guest
I suppose there could be a concern that over time it would be harmful, but for me its more a matter of wanting to avoid any reaction I can. Same with my DD. We don't worry too much about moisturizer etc, but shampoo we use in the shower, and anything we use around our mouths we avoid products with gluten. It's just not worth having a reaction. Sue in Denver > > Although I can understand that - how do you know that you aren't > ingesting shampoo when you are showering? Guest guest
I think the celiac community is pretty split on this one... For myself, I don't worry about it, as I don't get the soap near or on my mouth, much less ingest it. However, the reason I posted originally is that it is easy to get the idea that if you get it on your skin, it will cause a celiac intestinal response, which it does not. I wouldn't recommend any celiac chew on anybody's hair or anything, much less suds down their mouth with a gluten shampoo. (Don't laugh- I was grossed out as a high school student when I met a guy who was so cuddly with his girlfriend he was literally chewing on her hair. Yuck!) > > > > > Although I can understand that - how do you know that you aren't > > ingesting shampoo when you are showering? Guest guest
Same here, I think its a split. I don't worry about shampoos or moisturizer. Never have, and never had a resposne to anything like that in 24 yrs. Same with moisturizers... Never worried about that either. Just close your mouth when you rinse your hair, just in case, and then rinse your face before you open your mouth again. However, I do agree that someone that bites their nails should watch out for gluten in hand lotion. And it is more possible that a child might swallow some shampoo than an adult, so that may be another instance that people want to watch out for. (Although, I never paid attention to shampoo ingredients growing up & I was fine. But everyone is different) So my opinion on shampoos & moisturizers is... It depends on the circumstances & the individual. **And that is YUCK that the boyfriend would chew on her hair. Guest guest
EWWW! That is disgusting!! Not only is he gross for doing it, but she is just as gross for letting him. Yuck! I posted to let others just be aware, I get skin reactions- excema and psoriasis so I would rather error on the side of caution. I will only use a shampoo, lotion, etc. if I have verified it is GF. Some doctors say it is unnecessary but for every one that does there is one that says it is. > > > > > > Although I can understand that - how do you know that you aren't > > > ingesting shampoo when you are showering? Guest guest
I guess I wasn't asking for me personally...just in general. I already know that I HAVE TO stay away from products with gluten in them. I get a bad acne like rash that apparently isn't DH, but some other form of dermatitis that itches bad. Even when I use bad shampoo I get the acne like marks all over my neck, which is kind of gross to me, and it must be just from the shampoo or my glutened hair touching the front of my neck. Anyway, I personally have to be careful, but I was just wondering what others' thoughts were on the subject. Rhiannon Although I can understand that - how do you know that you aren't ingesting shampoo when you are showering? There have been many, many times that when I rinse my hair I think I have gotten shampoo or conditioner in my mouth. And although it might be a minute amount, if you do it everyday it could be harmful....right?
