Guest guest
Hi welcome to the group. I'm new here, but have learnt so much from everyone here. Hope you are getting on well with the medication. Aldyth (UK) misskrisaus wrote: Hi!! Is anyone from Australia? Most of the support seems to be coming from the US or Canada. I was wondering if there are any support groups in Australia? I am more then happy to talk to anyone from around the globe as well. It is interesting to note the differing treatments dependent on from what country you are in. I am lucky and have a wonderful Endo who is really understanding. I am hearing that you don't have that everwhere. I also want to once again thank you all for your support and for sharing your experiences. It is so reassuring to hear of others experiencing similar conditions.
Guest guest
Aldyth It is so nice to see others are also new to the group. I also think it is great that we can actually locate the support group. ElaineDaisy's website has been so helpful. I am still accessing articles and finding them so helpful. As I'm new I thought I would share my experiences with you... I have just turned 35 years old (is this middle aged? I haven't really thought about it too much but don't think I want to!!!). I was first diagnosed with Graves Disease in mid 1999. I was lying down watching TV with my 2 children when I was experiencing sequences of heart palpitations. I went to the Drs the day after. At the time I was separated from my husband and thought it may be just stress. The tests came back as GD but I didn't do any research as I didn't have the internet hooked up. A friend printed out some info for me. So my knowledge was limited. I was referred to an Endo and put on meds and cortisone. I went into remission in Feb 2000. (By the way my other symptioms were so minor I didn't even know they were an issue). To share them even though you may not want to know....periods were light, think I may have had sweaty palms and widening eyes and think that is it. I had my third child (2nd girl) in January this year. Had tests for GD which were clear. Howver a week after experiencing what I consider " chronic " diarrohea or a month or so went to my GP. Other symptions would be heart palpitations once or twice a day, anxiousness, not being able to do just one thing at a time - particularly say housework, flitting from one thing to another, being overwhelmed, thinking maybe I was suffering from depression, but not being depressed all the time and I guess the list goes on. But I am interested in knowing what others symptom are. I thought new baby, just settling, 3 kids, busy life???? But now I guess I know more. Interested in your stories!! ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi e Welcome to the group. I have to be brief as I'm feeling really tired and I'm in the early stages of labour with my 3rd baby (yipee). I live in Sydney. There are a couple of us in Australia. I don't know of any face to face support groups here. I have found that for me this group has been my life line. I will probably not be back on line for for the rest of the week - busy having a baby :-) . Speak to you later Take Care Caroline
Guest guest
Hi e... 35 is not middle aged!!!!! I'm 41 and don't feel that old, like to party with the rest of them - well I will when I'm better! It was good to hear your story, remind me - do you take Carbimazole too? Thank God your daughter is well, there is nothing worse than having a child with a chronic illness. My GP misdiagnosed Graves with me, saying it was stress/breakdown -my son had an ian crisis back in November, thankfuly they diagnosed it in time, but it was touch and go for a time. She sent me to a psychiatrist at first, then on the off chance decided to do a blood test just in case. She doesn't seem to know anything about Graves at all, but is willingly doing all the blood tests I ask for now as she obviously feels guilty! So it's been 5 weeks now, and things are ok, don't feel well yet, tired and like you trying to put the weight back on. I'm trying to concentrate on eating healthily (she says after eating a bit piece of treacle tart!), and avoid iodine rich foods, salt and dairy for the moment. Taking supplements, and doing relaxation classes - which I am finding very difficult still, keep wanting to leap up and run around the room to avoid feeling relaxed - too much FT3 in my system! So that's my story. I hope things settle down for you soon, it must be so hard with a new baby and being ill on top of it. Do you have support from family and friends nearby? Take care.......Aldyth e Grobe wrote: Aldyth It is so nice to see others are also new to the group. I also think it is great that we can actually locate the support group.
