Guest guest
Hello Cathy & welcome, there are many wonderful women here and it is a great source of information and support. I will try to help with your ultrasound. ....I do know that the fibroid seems to me to > be big in relation to the size of my utereous. The terminology is > over my head! > This is what it says: " There is an enlarged uterine fundus with > echogenic mass off from the fundus involving the serosal area > suggesting a fibroid..(someone interpret)... This just means the radiologist reading the report believes you have a fibroid growing in or from the fundus [top] of your uterus. This location often means you may have no symptoms at all. There is no free fluid in > the pelvis. This is good (normal). The uterous measures 9.5 cm * 6.8 cm * 8.4 cm in size and > the fibroid measures 5.4* cm * 4.4 cm * 4 cm in size. " Your uterus is, I believe, normal size (someone else here might confirm that) and your fibroid is about 2 inches wide at its widest point. This is not very large. You are almost exactly in the same boat I was in at age 40 -- I had a fundal fibroid about that size that over many years (I am now 48) slowly and steadily continued to grow (we watched it with ultrasounds every 6 mos.). I had virtually no symptoms for most of that time and hoped to wait it out until menopause, but it got ahead of me -- too big [and I mean really big, it grew to about 9 in.], and I am not yet approaching menopause -- so I had a myomectomy on 12/8/03. You may not have to do anything unless you have symptoms that are bothering you -- that is more important than the size of the fibroid by itself. I also have a > follicular cyst in my right ovary... This also is probably completely routine; most disappear within a couple of cycles. Anyway if anyway can interpret > what this all means I would really like help. Hope this is helpful, and good luck! Guest guest
--Thank you sun2dae! It was good to know even where the location of the fibroid is...I was curious about that as well. The only annoying sympton I have is that my periods can be so heavy to me. Other than that I do feel pretty good. I am willing to try changing my diet some and just watch and see how the fibroid does. It just made me so sad to know that my doctor immediately wanted to do a hysterectomy. I was glad to have the boldness to tell him no. Thanks again! Cathy
