Ed:

I bought a Tempur-Pedic mattress in September of 2002. This was about 7

months before I was scheduled for my hip resurfacing surgery. I wanted to

buy it because I was having difficulty sleeping at night. The hip pain was

great at this time even though I was taking an anti-inflammatory as well as

a non-narcotic pain killer to help sleep. The bed I had before was an

excellent one that had a pillow top (but it was aging and ready to be

replaced).

The change was dramatic. I was able to sleep so much better. It supports

you very well, yet gives you a feeling of floating in a cocoon. This was

prior to surgery. After my surgery in late March, I am sure I had the same

sleeping difficulties that everyone else has. There is just NO WAY around

that. However, in less then 2 weeks I was only waking once in the night.

I do credit my Tempur-Pedic with helping me so much.

My husband gets a bad back sometimes, but since getting the new mattress, he

rarely has a problem. I loved this bed so much that I swear it calls out

to me to take cap naps often! BTW, I opted for the 10 " mattress rather

then the 8 " one. It seemed well worth the extra bucks. We brought ours at

tone and got Free shipping and set-up as well as a $200 gift card.

Always ask them what promotion they are running....they usually give you

something to sweeten the deal. What really sold me was the 90-day money

back guarantee. If you don't care for it, you can return it...no charge.

But....I LOVE mine, they can NEVER take it back!!! Please feel free to

e-mail me with any questions.

Tempur-Pedic mattress

Hi Everyone,

Have any of you had any experience with special mattresses, such as

the Tempur-Pedic mattress? I don't sleep very well now, sleeping

mostly on my sides with a pillow between my knees, but I usually end

up going to the den to sleep in my recliner. This is due to hip pain

in my right hip. I am scheduled for resurfacing on December 2nd, with

Dr. DeSmet.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any knowledge or

experience with this type of mattress, and how it may help with sleep

after surgery.

Thanks to everyone for their help on this wonderful forum!

Hi Ed

I don't have a mattress, but I have a visco-elastic (which I think

is the same material as Tempur-Pedic) mattress PAD on top of my

extra-firm Beautyrest mattress and box spring, and it makes a

tremendous difference. I just started using it after my resurfacing,

and it really relieves the pressure points. However, still can't sleep

for more than half an hour on my operated side (at five weeks

post-op), as it gets too painful.

Ed,

I can't tell how this will affect post-operative pain and sleeping.

But, for pre-operative I bought one of the Tempur-pedic type mattress

pads (approx. 3 " thick) at Sam's club for around $100 and it made a

big difference in my ability to sleep with much less pain. For post-

op, I'll see what it does after my Jan/Feb bilateral.

Ed -

I went on the Sam's website and couldn't find these. Do you know exactly

what they're called? Or do you have an order number for these pads?

Let me know when you have a chance.

Thanks -

My tempur pedic mattress was a God-send for the year prior to my

resurfacing. I really could tell the difference when I trieed to

sleep at my sister's or my friend's house.

If you can do it, I recommend getting it.

How much help was the tempur pedic mattress after your surgery?

My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 17 with Dr. De Smet. I could tough

it out for 3 more weeks if it's not as helpful after surgery.

Thanks for your help!
