Hi Everyone!

I've been reading everything anyone has written on the S.L. Institute in

Colorado and have spoken to a few mothers who have been there with their child.

I

am seriously considering taking my 6 yr old autistic son there in June. What

I am looking for now is someone out there who has a child my sons age who

exhibited the same autistic traits as my son does and what changes you saw after

going through the 30 day treatment. If you've been there and your child

sounds like mine please email me so I can hear how their program improved your

child.

My son has a LOT of energy. He is in a Kindergarten autistic cluster and

each day I get the same report - good in the morning but out of his seat a lot

in

the afternoon. Until the teacher decided to create a jumping/dancing station

for him. He goes there and jum,ps around for several minutes and then he's

good to go. This started yesterday and he has gotten 2 " EXCELLENT " reports for

the 1st time all year. My point being that once his sensory needs were

addressed he was fine.

He is verbal but not conversational - is very aware of his surroundings and

is very smart. He can read and do math. Can do 100 piece puzzles since he was

4. He still tippy toes but not all the time.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with input. Thanks a lot!!!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. My daughter did AIT when she was

nine and again at 13. We saw some progress after the first session, but none

after the second one. They also told us never to use headphones. However,

she's now 20 and uses headphones occasionally with no problems. I'm not sure

why the headphone warning is so important or severe. After all, the children

use headphones for the treatment. If anyone knows why, please let me know.

Thanks.

I appreciate your honest evaluation of your experience.

Re: Sensory Learning Institute

Hi Joan,

My son did the SLP at the Sensory Learning Institute. Boulder CO. Although I

have heard some great stories, I did not see much or any progress in my son's

case except for a little better eye contact. On the downside my son will not be

allowed to use headphones for most part of his life. This to me is a very big

disadvantage because, he might miss out on a lot of fun things and also may not

be able to watch his CD roms at school. It is hard because I also have to go

around telling all who work with him not to use headphones with him.

It also made us poorer by $2500. Bolles is a wonderful woman. and all staff

at the Institute are wonderful just that the SLP was not a great idea for my

son.

This is purely our experience, since every child is different, opinions might

differ.

We also went to Boulder and came back with very little progress. I

understood that we weren't supposed to use headphones any time soon

like within the next year. I don't think it matters after that.

I know of two people that went to the Flint, MI location. One has had no

improvement w/slight regression at 1st. The other has seen minor improvements

and isn't sure if she can attribute it to the Sensory Learning program.
