Guest guest
Please tell me how I can withdraw from the group for a little while__I am going out of town and I get over 121 e-mails a day and I don't want to come back to a big mess. I will eventually sign back on but for now I need to withdraw Thanks, Janet ton, SC File - Guidelines GUIDELINES TO POSTING 1. Remember to sign your messages with your first name and your email address (for private mail replies as appropriate). Some mail systems do not provide full mail headers. 2. Use appropriate subject lines/headers to identify the topic of your message. On busy lists such as this one, many members read only the messages w/ headers of interest to them. If you change the subject when you answer a post, please make the appropriate change in the header. If you get messages in digest form, manually type in the relevant header to avoid having your message post w/ the digest title as header. If your mail system does not allow you to change the subject line, compose a new post with an appropriate header. 3. If you are responding to a previous message, edit it so that it includes only the pertinent parts. Long sections of messages everyone has already seen are boring, confusing & a waste of space, time & effort for all ( & particularly irksome for those getting messages in digest form); these types of messages often are not read at all by many members. So, do not add your own one-line message to a long quoted post. Do not embed a long previous post into your own new message. Do not leave irrelevant text dangling from the end of your response post; this is particularly important if you receive messages in digest form, as just hitting reply w/o editing will send the entire digest out w/ your message. (This causes problems w/ some servers that limit message length, so please be aware!) Delete all but the specific text you are responding to, & keep your own comments succinct. 4. If your post is not strictly about thyroid cancer, put the word CHAT in the subject line and consider if it will still be of interest to most of the members. Think carefully about the relevance and suitability of your posts, and use private e-mail instead of list messages when appropriate. Many list members carry on private conversations w/ each other; this satisfies their needs yet keeps list messages on topic. Although CHAT posts are allowed on the list, they should be kept to a minimum. Large numbers of CHAT posts tend to frustrate people looking for thyroid cancer information & support; some people unsubscribe simply due to the large number of list posts here. So, please be reasonable and considerate about the amount of CHAT posts you send to the list. The vast majority of posts should concern the topic of the list: thyroid cancer. Otherwise, ask yourself if the message you are about to send is really of interest to the entire group or just to one person. Personal messages or comments only of interest to one person should go to that person via private e-mail; to do that, simply hit reply as usual, but before sending your response, delete the list address in the message's To line & type (or transfer by copy/paste or drag/drop) the original poster's private address into the To line. 5. If you are asking for advice, be sure to tell us what type of thyroid cancer you have or have had and describe your treatments & follow-up. This helps us answer your questions more accurately. Even if you are not specifically asking for advice, other list members will better understand you and your life with thyroid cancer if you provide relevant medical background and information. Most long-time members will have a blurb of medical information following their signatures; use these as guides in creating your own. To avoid repetitive typing, many members have this blurb in a handy computer file that they routinely copy into the end of their list messages; most email programs will create special signature files for this purpose. 6. Be careful about the accuracy of the information you provide. Cite any official sources you are relying on; alternatively, make it clear when you are simply offering a personal opinion. Posting misinformation may cause serious problems and confusion for list members. 7. Humor is welcome. To show that you are being humorous and not serious, consider using " emoticons " in your message. Examples are :-) (a smiley face); ;-) (a wink); :-{) (a smiley with a mustache). 8. When you send your first post to the list, please tell us about yourself. If you work for a company that is a thyroid-related business, please disclose this information from the beginning. Once you send your first post to the list, you are a full-fledged list member. Tell us about you and your life as much as you think is appropriate. A first name or a nickname is essential here. This all helps to make the Internet more personalized. Of course, keep confidential any information you do not feel secure divulging in this forum; it is not generally wise to reveal information such as one's home address, phone number, etc. on the Internet. 9. Yahoo settings for this list will disable fancy formatting like colored backgrounds; all messages will be converted to plain text. Attachments will not be sent to list members, due to the risk they pose in passing along computer viruses. 10. This is a private mailing list. Please do not disseminate, publicly or privately, any list messages w/o the prior approval (specific & in writing) of the owner. 11. Please do not post computer virus warnings, Internet advisories, public service announcements, chain letters, off-topic breaking news, etc. to this list. 12. It is wise for anyone exchanging email to purchase & install one of the recognized virus protection programs. Remember, for this protection to remain current & catch the latest computer virus, you must frequently visit the vendor's website & download all the periodic upgrades. Note that repeated failure to observe the above Guidelines may result in the member receiving a warning; multiple warnings lead to being permanently unsubscribed. We are glad to have you as part of our Yahoo! Groups list community, and look forward to your contributions. We hope we can provide you with helpful information, support, and perhaps a smile or two as you deal with thyroid cancer.
