Guest guest
Uh.....get rid of the AFO and use a DBB? Otherwise I don't know. My son wore the AFO's for 18 months and never had slippage.... each one was built to his foot with a mold. but it's pretty common consensus here that the AFO doesn't achieve the results (long term) that the DBB does and that was my (bad) experience with the AFO's as well. s. My 3 month old daughter (left club foot) had 5 casts and did not require any surgery. The dr ordered an AFO at 10 degrees. It slips all the time. I use the Gap kids socks, and place the straps extremely tight on the AFO. Any suggestions? thanks, mollie
Guest guest
I have an appt w/ the Dr on the 22nd and I will press him about the DBB, and question why he recommends the AFO. Did your son end up using the DBB? What ended up being your bad experience w/ AFO's? mollie > Uh.....get rid of the AFO and use a DBB? Otherwise I don't know. Guest guest
The reason most people don't recommend the AFO's is because of regression. They don't hold the feet out at enough of an angle and the feet curve back in. If you check the history there are a lot of post regarding AFO's. My dd wore them for only a short time and I notice a lot of regression and she was also always getting out of them. As far as slipping, it helps if you put a shoe over them. There is also a figure 8 strapping for the Velcro that a lady on the clubfoot board http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/clubfoot/ swears by. She can send you pictures and explain it better so you might want to try your post over there. They also made me a longer foam piece that went in the front but it didn't help my dd much. You said strap which makes me think there is only one. Mine had 3 straps across the foot. HTH and you should definitely do as much research on them as possible before deciding to leave her in the AFO's.
