Guest guest
Becky, Thank you for your supportive comment. We have decided to schedule the induction for Thursday. Hopefully, it will happen sooner. It seems to me that my OB said next week for his own scheduling purposes. It just does not make sense to us either. We are still going to the perinatologist for the growth check and bio physical. I think he will recommend the induction as well. What disturbs me is that my OB told me the baby was so high up that when he did the internal the head starting bouncing around. Last week, the perinatologist told me that the baby was so low when he did the last growth check (at 38 weeks) that he could not really get an accurate measurement of growth. He said the baby was not bouncing around and was resting on the cervix. I told my OB that I could barely walk and that my hip joints, thigh joints and pubic bone were all hurting me. How could that happen if the baby has not dropped? I keep telling him that the longer we wait the more chance there is of a c-section due to the size of the baby. I wonder if that is what he is hoping for. I think he agreed to the induction on Thursday because he did not want to get in trouble with the perinatologist. He knows that I will be examined by another doctor who will not want me going past this week. At any rate, I will be induced on Thursday which is also my birthday. It looks like this group is going to have a few babies being born any day now. To Becky and to Joy: I wish you both the best of luck! Maybe our babies will all have the same birthday!!!! Okay, one more question: Does anyone plan on wearing a binder after delivery? I have a large pannis and very weak abdominal muscles. Prior to pregnancy, I had to wear a girdle at all times, but I don't think you can wear a girdle immediately after childbirth. I just hope the hospital gets me a binder. I telephoned my surgeon to request his involvement, but he said that all hospitals have abdominal binders and just to ask them. What did you ladies (with large pannises) do after delivery?????? That's all for now...... Shoshannah K open r ny 3/6/01 edd 6/25/03 still waiting for baby girl mom to A.J. 7 1/2 Rockville, land

Guest guest
> I told my OB that I could barely walk and that my hip joints, thigh > joints and pubic bone were all hurting me. How could that happen if > the baby has not dropped? hip pain and pubic symphysis pain is usually caused by Relaxin in the system....not because the baby has dropped. In fact, it's NORMAL for a 2nd+ baby to not drop/engage until mom is already in labor. > I keep telling him that the longer we wait > the more chance there is of a c-section due to the size of the baby. > I wonder if that is what he is hoping for. > actually...cesareans are RARELY needed because of the size of the baby. (and in the last few weeks...babies don't grow that much. They put on brown fat, gaining 1/4-1/2 pound a week...but they aren't gaining that much in their HEAD or their SHOULDERS....and babies don't get stuck at their chubby little thighs. *grin*) The difference in growth between 1-2 weeks in a full term fetus is actually very little. (the fear of going postdates, or 42+ weeks, is that baby will actually begin to LOSE weight...the fear is not that they will get too big.) If your cervix is still not effaced and not dilated with a ballotable baby...that is a VERY low Bishop's Score and does not sound like you are likely to have a vaginal delivery if the induce you right now. Your odds of having a cesarean for a failed induction (from just what you've said...there may be other things going on that you haven't said..) are much higher than the odds of your baby getting too big to fit through your pelvis. > At any rate, I will be induced on Thursday which is also my birthday. Congratulations!!! I hope everything goes smoothly and exactly the way you're dreaming it will. =) Good luck to you! What is Relaxin? > > thanks > melissa > Relaxin is a hormone that's secreted in large amounts at the end of pregnancy....it's a hormone that loosens up the ligaments and joints in preparation for childbirth, so that the pelvis is able to open up more to ease the passage of the baby... it's a good thing, believe it or not. =) means your body is doing what it's supposed to be doing...
