Guest guest
Jay, What's the difference between the gold and red non-adjustable bars anyway? Guest guest
Just thought I would chime in for a minute. Yes Jay is making larger shoes, a 8 1/2 and a 9. That should be sufficient for the older kids. My son is almost four and wears a 9 xw in regular shoes and he is very big for his age. Charity and Trenton (8-24-00) Re: Should the shoes stay or go? Jay I apologise if I have missed the reply or any other discussion on this issue. There has been a lot of debate recently over the full term duration required for the boots and bar. The general impression I get from reading the messages is that most parents will continue with the FAB until their child is at least 4 years old. What is the typical shoe size for a four year old? A recent message from and Claire stated that Claire is almost 4 and currently wears a size 9 1/2 in regular shoes. With the increased awareness of the importance of maintaining the nightime wearing of the FAB are Markell considering increasing the range of sizes that the Tarso open toe boot comes in? I beleive that a size 8 is the largest size avaialble. Tom , Corinne & Ben > Joanne et al. > > There are bars longer than 14 inches. The red bar (non- adjustable), > comes in 16 " and 18 " lengths. Guest guest
Charity, Just for comparison - my oldest at 4 was wearing a 12 - I kid you not! This is the one who is almost into a boys 3 now at not quite 6 years old. At the time he wasn't considered to be a really large kid (he's seeming larger in body now for some reason - I imagine too much Spongebob over the winter). My 4 year old (just 4 in March) is quite a bit smaller than his older brother, a bean pole in comparison actually and he's wearing a 10. So I would imagine there will be the occasional child who will need larger shoes but we'll have to see when the time comes. I wonder what it takes to make the larger shoe anyway? Is there any way to use the tools or dies for the other products and put together a large shoe if it's needed for a particular child? Jay? Guest guest
Kori, Good comparison, but one other thing to keep in mind is that clubfoot babies tend to have smaller feet. Trenton definitely has smaller feet! He wears a size 5T in clothes and weighs almost 45 pounds (he isn't big, just solid), not to mention is very tall for his age. He was born with what Dr. P calls short fat feet. : ) Even so I don't know of anyone currently that the new sizes wont accommodate and I'm sure if the need arises in the future for an even larger size, Mr. Markell will accommodate us. Take Care and thanks for your insight. Charity and Trenton (8-24-00) Re: Should the shoes stay or go? > > >Jay > >I apologise if I have missed the reply or any other discussion on >this issue. Yes, I know. Which is why I was referring to the occasional " Big Foot " child. Darbi doesn't have the smaller feet - I think she's about average actually. And since she's unilateral her other foot is not as small as her clubfoot. I doubt there will be very many kids out there like my oldest of course, but you never know. Which is something for the mfr's to keep in mind. Can they make a large shoe now and then so a child who might discard the brace early (because Dr. says there aren't shoes available) could stay in it longer? It may not be cost effective to have these shoes sitting on the shelf but I'm wondering if they can work them up from scratch or use other equipment to make a larger shoe as needed? > Kori Mama of Kenton - 6/98 Merek - 3/00 Darbi - 3/28/03 - Rt. Guest guest
Tonya, My apologies for forgetting to thank you for your feedback! LIke I said, I was reading lots of messages and wasn't keeping track of people's names... Thanks for the suggestion, support and encouragement. Will keep you posted on what happens at our checkup in June. You may have mentioned this previously, but how are 's feet at this point. Is he experiencing a relapse? Best, Joanne Subject: Re: Should the shoes stay or go? Joanne We had to get a larger pair of shoes. wore his until he was three and three months. He is now three months with out his shoes and I am wondering if we should have gotten another pair of shoes. He had very severe bcf. The sleeping thing was bad for us too. Hang in there. I work full time and to not get sleep stunk. My friends who had kids without the FAB would tell me all kinds of things to do, but they really didn't know. It wasn't the same. What finally worked for us was to bring him to bed with us. I got sleep and so did . Dad was not thrilled especially when he would get kicked. Ouch! I would tell myself that is was only for a short period and that seemed to help. Hang in there you are almost at the finish line! Guest guest
Jay, Thanks for the info. Somehow I missed your original message while reading the digest! I will see if my local shoe shop has a 16 " bar. Dr. Herzenberg uses the non-adjustable bar as did our second doctor. I've never seen the adjustable ones... All of our bars have been different colors. The 14 " one is green... So now that you are making size 9, we should be all set to keep wearing the shoes once we get through this rough spot! Thanks again for your continued support!
