Cheryl,

Today here in CA it's supposed to be in the mid-80's today. Get packin'

I have volunteered at our local hospital for 15 years and there are lots of

days

that I haven't wanted to make the effort to go in. On the days that isn't my

scheduled shift (in the gift shop), I don't always but on the days that other

people are counting on me I have never missed. I always feel rejuvenated

just from being there. I also buy the baby items and the candy for the gift

shop so I do try and go in once a week to keep " my " stuff current. I totally

agree, we need to work at keeping active and our minds stimulated.

Always good to hear from you.

Hey everyone!

Since Kathi brought up the subject of working with HSP, I

thought this would be a great time to " speak my mind " . By the way,

Kathi, I wish you much luck and know you'll make the right decision

for yourself!

Since I had totalled my car in January and decided not to

purchase anotherone anytime soon, I've been finding that alot of my

energy has been used by walking (with cane or forearm crutches) to

the bus stop and spending extra time riding on the bus to the YMCA,

etc....so I recently told the volunteer director at hospice (45 min.

ride on bus) that I won't be able to volunteer there anymore since

I'm finding that my energy seems to start " running " out after 3-4

hours of activity....Anyway, since another bus patron suggested

(since I have good " people skills " ) I contact the local town nurse

to volunteer in her office, I emailed her recently and am waiting

for a response....

To make a long story even longer....I think all of us, no

matter what stage of progression we're at, need to have some mind-

stimulating activities, and I would love to " hear " what you all

think about this. Since my partner and I hope to move to Arizona by

the end of the year, I will wait until after we move to pursue a

part-time position. FYI, at the moment, I'm keeping busy by going

to YMCA 3-5 days/week; volunteering as Secretary for local advocacy

group for adults with disabilities & helping them with bake sales

and other fund-raising activities; and cooking for myself and my

parter (I love to cook and Bob loves to eat), and for bake sales.

Although I do collect SSDI, it is not going to get me rich any time

soon.

Today is another rainy, cold day here in Maine. It is the

5th weekend in-a-row that has been rainy. The sun isn't even

forcasted to show up until Thursday....Don't be surprised to see

more posts from me soon! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

I totally agree that you have to keep your mind stimulated and you

have to be with people. I work at a charity store once a week. I tag

clothes and I have so much fun talking to the people there. Thats

what we do all day is " Talk " and laugh all the time. I feel a little

exhausted when I leave there but the feelings of exhileration

(spelling) and the fact that I am back in the workforce are all worth

it!!
