I believe that other supplements to improve bile would be Taurine and Glycine.

Dagmar.

[ ] Andy, Dana & others: dermatitis on GFCF, poop /

liver problems

Hello everybody,

my son (9 yrs old, HFA, on strict GFCF for 5+ yrs., currently on ALA

chelation) has a recurrent skin condition: his skin gets very itchy,

especially in places where edges of sleeves touch it (i.e. wrists in winter

and upper arms in summer), he scratches it until it bleeds. The bleeding

parts look to me like pictures of atopic dermatitis. Most probably it is not

yeast, because it is present even if his yeast is under control (i.e. there

is no red ring around the anus and no red patches on the face). I would

suspect celiac, if he weren't on GFCF for so long. Am I right that GF clears

up the atopic dermatitis and /or dermatitis herpetiformes in celiac

patients? Another thing, his poops (sorry for the graphic description) are

very often pale and once or twice they were nearly white so that I was

afraid he had hepatitis (the next day though they would go back to pale

brown). Sometimes they are greenish (usually when he has yeast). Milk

thistle helps some to make the poops not so pale, but they can be pale even

with as much as 200 mg milk thistle a day. I guess it is a sign of low bile

flow and of general liver disfunction, and I thought it also could happen if

he had celiac, but again, celiac doesn't manifest itself if a person is GF,

does it? What could that be? I'll greatly appreciate any ideas because we

are going to see a DAN dr Tuesday, and I want to ask her to run appropriate

tests, but cannot think myself of anything besides liver detox panel.

His supplements (without dosages):

vits A, C, E, Ca/Mg/Zn, CLO, L-glutamine, Se, milk thistle

+ALA for chelation

Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestions!

Elena

This sounds like a sensitivity to an environmental allergen.

Possibly a food or supplement issue, but more likely environmental.

If it is a gluten reaction of celiac, then yes. Altho one of my kids

gets rashes for reasons OTHER than celiac and gluten.

My kids have this problem occasionally. Light can be liver issues,

but when my kids have this problem, it is just an isolated event and

I ignore it. Because yours are not an isolated event, you might

consider that something is stressing his liver on those days. Do you

keep a journal and record EVERYTHING? Might be helpful.

Green bms for my kids meant either they had eaten something blue,

green, or purple, or they had eaten something they did not tolerate.

I get this from contact allergies - can be type of elastic in cuffs,

fabric treatment, laundry detergent (even if it's not a new brand -

the irritation can build up over time), or something that the cuffs

are in contact with, like newprint, arts & crafts materials, even

soap from washing hands. The itch can be everywhere, but the most

concentrated ares are those with close contact to the body, such as

cuffs and waistbands. Finding the allergen can take a bit of

detective work. Meanwhile, Benedryl relieves the irritation.

Does he have clothes made of natural or synthetic fibers? Consider trying

organically grown natural fibers. You may also want to look into NAET.

Sounds like he's low on bile, bilirubin, in particular when they're greenish.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what one can do about that but suspect others on

the list may know.

I am using Castille Soap (water, saponified coconut and olive oils, hemp

oil, jojoba oil, peppermint oil, mentha arvensis, sea salt, citric acid,

vit. E) as soap for head, body and dishwashing, and Trader Joe's detergent

(don't have the ingredients at hand, but it was sold as biodegradable and

hypoallergenic). No bodylotions.

ly, I don't think it's only a skin problem, b/c his skin is very

sensitive in other places too: even the smallest scratches turn into white

elevated stripes which are apparently very itchy; wrists only happen to be

the places where the mechanical irritation happens repeatedly. I rather

would think it is a systemic problem maybe connected to the liver

disfunction, or some kind of GI bugs; I just cannot find anyone who would be

knowledgeable about it. THe DAN doctor we go to is not much help; her goal

seems to be to have me follow the protocol and buy supplements from her

(which I don't do), while my goal is to have her order the tests. I do wish

I knew what tests to order!
