Guest guest
My daughter also had unilateral club foot and was treated with the Ponseti Method. She is now 5 1/2 months old and we are very pleased with the results. According to Ponseti the casts need to be on for at least 5 days at a time. The casts MUST be from the toe to MIDTHIGH (some doctors only go to below the knee). Is the doctor giving anesthesia to do the tenotomy? What stage are you at? My daughter never had anything but local anesthesia (topical) during the tenotomy. Nothing was needed during the casting (she did cry. The doctor suggested giving her a bottle, but she would never take one). I would check with Ponseti to make sure he is using the method correctly. My daughter also had an umbilical hernia. It is from the umbilical muscles not closing completely before birth and occurs in nearly 25% of infants...especially those born a little early. We simply taped (used surgical tape) a quarter to her belly with gauze under it. We started at about 6-7 weeks old and it was corrected before she was 4 months old. I have read about it and asked many doctors (my daughter's was the size of a cherry tomato and looked as though it was going to explode sometimes...very scary). They say surgery should never be considered before age 2, most likely not until age 4. How old is your son? I hope this helps. Please feel free to e-mail me with any other concerns. >>Message: 11 Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2004 17:53:22 -0000 Subject: umbilical hernia and other doubts Dear all, My son is having unilateral clubfoot. He is being treated in Ponseti method(at leat some thing similar to that). The progress looks ok. But the equs correction is giving problem. the child is not co-operating with the doctor. So, My doctor said, he will do by giving anaesthesia. Is it OK? Even the casts are being changed every fortnight. Is it OK? Added to this, the doctor diagnoised umbilical hernia and said the baby needs to undergo some surgery, otherwise he may develop some complications regarding Intestines. Is it due to over crying during cast changes or any other reason.... Please do let me know ur experiences. regards
