There isn't a difference.. that is, many people call the brace used

in the Ponseti method a " DBB " . But it is my understanding that,

according to Dr. Ponseti, that is actually a misnomer. In literature

on the method you see " foot abduction brace " (FAB) or " foot abduction

orthosis. " I'm not sure how the original " DBB " differed from what is

now used in the Ponseti method, but apparently it is not quite the

same thing.

Following is an excerpt from an editorial written by Dr. Ponseti

which appeared in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics a couple of

years ago, which mentions the brace, and its name:

" To prevent relapses, a foot abduction bar (FAB) (wrongly called

Denis-Browne splint) with shoes holding the feet in the same position

as in the last cast is worn full time for 3 months and then at night

and naps for 3 years (11). " (You can read more of this at message

#9438 in the nosurgery archives.)

You can see pictures of the FAB, as supplied in Iowa, at this site:

Long answer! =)
