Guest guest
I am glad that Everett's feet have so much dorsiflexion. That really makes me wonder about Kaitlin though. We were at the ortho's on the 16th and he said all was good. I didn't think that her feet had much flexion then, but he said they were fine since they were able to go past the " neutral " position (barely). Not anymore. Well, I take that back. I guess she has atleast 10 degrees since that is what the shoes are set to, but it doesn't look like that to me. I try to look at her when she bears weight, but she favors her non-clubfoot so much that it is difficult to tell. I guess I will have to wait and see what Dr. Frick says. Hopefully he will call me tomorrow. Just curious, did Everett have a tenotomy? I think you said he did, but I can't remember for sure. Kaitlin never did. Maybe that is a reason for the difference? Guest guest
Thanks for all the info , I appreciate it yes, the cleats must go! ha ha, he'd have 5 complaints if I emailed him too! As for the dorsiflextion (?) I don't know what to tell you there. Everett's feet geeze, the top of his foot can nearly touch his shin it has so much flex. s. S./mitchell/dorsiflexion I finally spoke with today. I asked him about the dorsiflexion. He says that the shoes have 10 degrees of dorsiflexion in the bar. I looked closely at the ends of the bar, per his instructions and the bends are there. He said that Dr. Ponseti says that 10 degrees is all that is necessary. I never noticed the bends before, they are so small and right at the shoes. He said that it is fine that the bottom straps don't cover Kaitlin's toes. He said the most important thing is that the middle strap is tight enough to keep her foot flat in the shoe. He said that the yellow rubber is the main part of the shoe that holds the correction. I also mentioned the logo cleats on the bottom of the shoes and he said that he has had 4 complaints about that over the past week and that he will be changing the shoes again to do away with that part. He said that his goal in putting the logo there was to make the shoes look more like regular shoes...not to inflict pain on us parents. (suuuurrrreeee it was! :-) Well that was basically the gist of our conversation today. I feel much better about them now. I was looking at Kaitlin's foot though and it seems that when I pull her toes up towards her shin (dorsiflexion, right?) her toes will not go beyond the flat (neutral) position. Does that sound right? I thought they should flex more than that, her nonclubfoot does flex more. Could this signal the beginning of a relapse? I put in a call to Dr. Frick, but am still waiting to hear back. Freeman
