YAYYY! I am so glad you have decided to go up to Children's to see

Dr. Mosca. We have only had positive experience with him and I have

heard only positive things from other as well. In addition to being

a Ponseti graduate he is very highly qualified. We usually see Dr.

Schmale who works closely with Dr. Mosca. In fact, Evan (8-17-00

bcf) has an appt. to see Schmale AND Mosca on June 7 at 10:45. In

case you didn't see my posts a few weeks back, Evan is having some

kind of relapse or tendon problem, we're not sure which and we're

hoping that Dr. Mosca can shed a little light on this. Dr. Mosca

also did one of Evan's tenotomies. He is very nice and I have felt

that he truly cares about the kids. He also goes the extra mile and

answers email quickly!!! I really appreciate that about him.

Maybe we'll see you there some day!

Dr Mosca is quite nice, and his cast tech, Sam, is great! Dr Mosca has done

most of Kai's casting, with the exception of 2 casts that Dr Ponseti had to do.

Dr Mosca uses soft casts, but dont be alarmed at that because he has shown

excellent results with it; just make sure you dont take the casts off more than

an hour before the appointment. The only thing I would caution is that Dr Mosca

says to go down to 10-12 hours after the 23/7 period where Dr Ponseti goes from

23 hrs to 18 hrs to 16 hrs to 12-14 hours. If you are comfortable with going

straight to 10-12 go for it. If you are not, then you can contact Dr Ponseti to

find out the schedule for hour reductions. :)

Good luck!

My daughter Rose is a patient of Dr. Mosca's as well. Rose actually had all her

casts done in Alaska and the ortho here, referred us to Dr. Mosca for surgery.

Although he had been referring to Dr. Mosca for years, he didn't realize that

Dr. Mosca had switched to the Ponseti method. Dr. Mosca said that Dr. Schwartz

had done an excellent job correcting Rose's foot, did a tenotomy, gave us a DBB

and sent us home to Alaska. We do quarterly followup visits with Dr. Schwartz

in Ketchikan. But, I have emailed Dr. Mosca with questions and he has responded

promptly, once calling me (when I wanted to discontinue using the shoes) to get

his point across. He wants to see Rose basically once a year so we are heading

out for her annual checkup with him in mid-June.

I was very impressed with Dr. Mosca and also with his staff. The nurses were

great and spent lots of time with us. Greg fitted her shoes and he was THE

BEST. HE showed us how to put the shoes on her, how they were supposed to fit,

gave us his card if we had any questions. Also, he is really quick getting out

new shoes when necessary.

Children's hospital in general did a great job billing out our insurance and

taking care of all of that. By the time we were done, we barely had to pay

anything. This was such a relief because Ketchikan General Hospital definitely

did not do this and we will be paying them for a very long time.

Best of Luck,

Robin & Rose
