Guest guest
Absolutely, right Candace... And it is wonderful that Peggathy is inspired to to write about her experiences. However, 11 promotions of the book in 3 weeks on this site, is a little exasparating, to say the least, especially to the converted. Even if Peggathy's intentions are wholly honorable, it does come across as commercialism. Surely a balance can be created? As new people join the forum and ask for information, then Peggathy has every right to put forward her book, just as many of us put forward our personal experiences. And if that succeeds in promoting the book to a wider readership, good for Peggathy. Well, that's just my humble opinion. (McMinn BHR's. I was happy to learn about the book initially, but I got a little tired of seeing posts promoting it (ALL IN CAPS!!) Now that we are ALL aware of the existence of the book, we can pass the word along to new folks who post on the message board. Guest guest
Well said, . After I'd seen a couple of the promos for the book, I first reacted with 'oh this is getting tiresome, and then I got sort of suspicious. Given my particular general take on things, I decided that, on principle I would never buy the book. In other words, too much promotion turns me right off. Sharry Re: Bradley787@a ......im sorry to offend. And it is wonderful that Peggathy is > inspired to to write about her experiences. Guest guest
I'll promote Dr De Smet anytime, anywhere, but this is a book promotion, let's clarify that. Guest guest
This thread is getting very tiresome. Peggy has created a valuable source of information about resurfacing which could provide crucial information to patients trying to learn from other's experiences and prepare for their own major surgery and life changing event. I understand how exuberance and enthusiasm contained within messages posted by the authors and her readers can be interpreted as promotional. There is a thin line between trying to get the word out about a valuable contribution to the group suffering from hip pain and greedy self promotion. I think that we should give Peggy, as one of our own, the benefit of a doubt here. She has poured her time and energy into this work in a selfless effort to aid others. Publishing a book in the " Vanity Press " is an expensive and risky thing to do. It would be a shame to stifle Peggy's or other's efforts to inform and guide others. There have certainly been plenty of other " authors " on this forum who have shared their histories and experiences online and many, including myself have benefited from their efforts. That someone has collected stories of pain, endurance, searching, and final success and put these in a book that others can refer to is commendable and admirable. For people (who have not bothered to examine it) to criticize and condemn the book and the author's efforts reflects a jaded and cynical mindset that could even damage the chances that others in need of information and encouragement will find relief from their pain. If the messages raving about Peggy's book bore you, there's always the delete button. It's a big world out there and there's lots of people who are going to say things you don't agree with or would rather not hear online. But unless it is patently untrue, or somehow damaging to others, we are better off tolerating a few tiresome messages then censuring, criticizing and embarrassing people for no reason. I hope we can return to the purpose of this discussion group, which is to provide information and encouragement, not criticism and distrust.
