A peculiar symptom

I recently wrote and described the symptoms leading up to my resurfacing failure

(see Holiday Season posting) but I forgot one very peculiar symptom.

From sometime in the summer I remember lying in bed on my stomach one bright

sunny morning. My clock radio had just come on, and I was awakened by the

music. I lay there for a while with my eyes closed just listening to the

music--and then I opened my eyes. At the instant my eyelids opened, I felt a

single throb of pain in my hip. It was the most peculiar thing. I didn't know

if it was the act of lifting my eyelids or light striking my eyes, but something

connected to the eyes trigger the pain in my hip.

It wasn't until now that my implant has loosened and I am in pain that I have

had a recurrence of the phenomenon. On several occasions this past week,

whenever I raise my eyelids after sleeping or just dozing off, I'll get that

same single throb of pain in the hip. It's not a weight bearing ache. It's not

a sharp jabbing pain. It's just a single throb of pain that I can't compare to

any other pain I've ever experienced in my hip.

I guess my summer experience was an omen of my impending fate. Perhaps I've

just discovered the one true determining symptom of a resurfacing failure! I

can just see it in the medical journals now: eye induced hip pain.

Hi ph,

What does one say................ yes it will make a good medical journal

article..........smile......... But so sad for you that it has heralded yet

another operation........ and another prothesis implant.........another

recovery etc........... For that we all wish you well and a speedy

recovery............ please do tell us how you go........

As for the eye's well they do tell a lot about the body state............so

perhaps it isn't as strange as it seems at first that there should be an

indication via the eyes..........

Again all the best with your forthcoming adventure............. the human

body and mind is so often great at acceptance and your positive

attitude is bound to help you heal.........

Thanks so much for sending in details of your pre-failure symptoms -

you must have a revision by now and I hope it's going well. I wonder

how many other list members had a quick look at the celing light to

check that their hip was OK after reading your message? I did!

Perhaps I've just discovered the one true determining symptom of a

resurfacing failure! I can just see it in the medical journals now:

eye induced hip pain.
