Guest guest Posted April 18, 2004 Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 Based on our conversation with an allergist we are seeing, I am curious how many people wtih ASD kids have some form of Heavy Metal Allergy? In other words, how many people cannot wear costume jewelry, or anything with Nickel or other 'non-precious' metal? On a side note, I always accused my wife of faking that one, but the allergist claims it's actually true. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can wear rings, and a watch but I can't wear ear-rings, even 24k gold. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 18, 2004 Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 My oldest son cannot even wear jeans because of the metal button, he gets a rash when he wears one. Belts are also a problem if he doesn't keep his shirt tucked in. My mom bought him a shirt that zipped, we didn't think about it, but sure enough he got a rash. Not sure what we are going to do about his class ring, 18 ct gold is expensive, but I don't think he could tollerate anything else, heck, not even sure he could tollerate that. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2004 Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 Have you tried NAET? Find out what else is in the 18 kt gold ring. Nickel's often a problem and sound like perhaps copper, depending upon what brand jeans he wears. My future husband and I are in the process of figuring out what metals we can use for the rings. I'll take some tungsten (my future step-father in-law borrowed some from a jeweler) to the NAET practitioner to have her test me for that. If it's ok we'll go with gold with a little tungsten. She doesn't have tungsten in her kit. If I couldn't have gotten some otherwise there's a way to order a vial through the NAET website. Platinum's very expensive. Most jeweler's don't recommend pure titanium, because although very few people have problems with it (I have pure titanium eyeglasses) because they can't size titanium rings and couldn't cut one off if they needed to due to an accident. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2004 Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 I have allergy to all gold around my neck and ears, but not on my fingers, wrists. I can wear platinum in my ears. I break out if I'm even near the fake stuff. I also get a rash from the buttons, closures on some pants. a > Based on our conversation with an allergist we are seeing, I am > curious how many people wtih ASD kids have some form of Heavy Metal > Allergy? Guest guest Posted April 19, 2004 Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 Pure gold's too soft for jewelry so it's alloyed with other metals, often nickel, copper, sometimes silver. Generally a reaction is to the alloys rather than the gold. White gold is yellow gold coated with rhodium which can wear off. > I think I had NAET testing for all the metals in their kit and required treatment for all but gold. > S > I have allergy to all gold around my neck and ears, but not on my
fingers, wrists. I can wear platinum in my ears. I break out if I'm
even near the fake stuff. I also get a rash from the buttons,
closures on some pants.

a

=======================================================
Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 19, 2004 Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 actually, white gold is gold mixed with nickel. 22 carrot gold is pure gold, depends on the use, for heavy rings it's fine, but not fine chains or fine wire (ie ear wires), thought the rings can scratch somewhat easily. What gold is mixed with varries depending on it's intended use and color wanted. Some jewelers mix it themselves. It's rarely mixed with silver because silver is actually softer than gold. Sterling is 92.5% silver, and the rest copper. [ ] Re: Heavy Metal Allergy Poll? > > Pure gold's too soft for jewelry so it's alloyed with other metals, often nickel, copper, sometimes silver. Guest guest Posted April 19, 2004 Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 I can't wear any kinds of earrings--not even the 100 percent gold ones--all of them make my ears swell up and feel hot within an hour of putting them in. I do however wear my gold wedding band without problems.
