Hi, I feel for you, this is a hard thing to do, and yet, here you have

so many of us who know what you're going through and can root

for you in your time of hardship.

I have to say, the few weeks before surgery were somewhat

scary, I have a vivid imagination and I'm something of a

hypochondriac, so I had lots of fun middle of the night scenes to

play in my head.

What I ended up doing, and this made the last few days fly by,

was make a LOOOOOONG list of tiny little things that I HAD to

have before my surgery. The list included things that I had culled

from my combing of the archives of this group (another good

activity while waiting for surgery). Also on the list, miniscule little

things that I thought I might want and need while recovering that I

might not be able to explain to my boyfriend that I absolutely had

to have, like new lipgloss in a shimmery pale rose, a nice body

lotion, a new perfume oil, a new shower scrubber. I bought

chocolates for the nursing staff in the hospital, I went to the

library and borrowed books to read while recovering. If I wasn't

out shopping, I cleaned the apartment and tidied up, or if I was at

work I made more lists, checked them off, transferred them to

nicer paper, etc. etc. etc. I made myself endlessly busy.

The only thing I wish I had done is sit down and just let it all sink

in, that I was going to be having surgery, and that it was going to

be for my good, and that I was really excited and happy about it.

Instead I ran myself ragged trying to avoid my fears. It did work to

keep my minds off things to stay busy. And of course you're sad

about it, it's not easy to have to go through. But it can be done,

and just think, you'll be that much closer to your dream of having

a baby when all is said and done.

Hugs, email me if you wish,

B

Lets see before the surgery

hmm read about 50 books

watched movies (Die Hard series, Bullock

marathon, Lethal Weapon series, Buffy the vampire all

seasons, Harry Potter both movies, Charlie and the

Chocolate Factory, The Lady in White, etc)

ate a ton of popcorn

drank juice, soda

and talked on the phone all at once

but I was really nervous

Really the surgery part is the cake walk the hard part

is dealing with doctors

Great Luck and hang in there ...and just think it

could be worse...you could have no VCR or books or us

then what would you do to stay busy. :)

Hi A,

I do feel for your situation at 33. At the same age, I became pregnant and

became aware for the first time that I had fibroids. The advice I was given was

just that they are benign, common, no problem. (Not completely accurate advice -

as we know they can cause HUGE problems). They must have been very small at the

time, I thought it was a non-issue.

Anyway, after I had the baby the largest fibroid was 4cm, so I was lucky. It did

interfere with the birth, ending in an emergency caesar, but fortunately baby

was fine. She was born at term and was very healthy. Yesterday I was talking to

a woman at work, however, whose fibroid grew in pregnancy to the size of a

soccer ball. She delivered at about 27 weeks, and the worst eventuality

occurred. (Happily she now has two lovely kids, had a myo after the first

pregnancy experience).

I think myomectomy under a competent surgeon is the very, very safest choice in

your situation, and you are definitely on the right track if you want to have

children.

It is very, very normal to be anxious before your surgery. If you have any

questions, ring your doc and ask, ask, ask until your mind is relieved. I am

sure you will receive many other responses from here and that they will also be

of help.

Your surgery is very soon. Are you feeling confident in your choice of doctor?

If you are, then you have done all you can and now must try to trust that your

decision is the right one, and that all will be well.

I wish you the very best.

Hi,

My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday October 9th and I'm feeling

depressed about it. I need to have the surgery due to fertility

issues -- we're likely going to have to do IVF (although I pray that

we don't). I'm 33 and my 6cm fibroid is just going to continue to

grow, even if my naturopathic treatment helped slow it down.

I don't have the bleeding that many of you are experiencing; my heart

goes out to all of you with debilitating symptoms. I feel periodic

discomfort and then there is the infertility. Otherwise I'm

completely healthy and I think that's why the prospect of having the

surgery is so sad for me. I just don't want to feel bad, and right

now it is the surgery that is going to cause me more short-term pain.

When I compare that to the prospect of not having children I think it

is a reasonable trade off to have the surgery. But still, how did the

rest of you get through the last few days of anticipation prior to

your surgeries?

Hi A,

What i did to get ready for my surgery was talk to anyone who would listen to

me..It seems more real to me that way..I like you would like to have at least 1

child and if sacrificing my uterus to be repaired means getting a baby i will do

it again..

As the other women on here have stated think of being closer to having a

child..that to me is the silver lining.

You will be fine..i wish you a lot of luck and a speedy recovery..It is not as

bad as you think..

You can also do a search a read my experience..the heading is I'M BACK & FIBROID

FREE!!

Big Hugs!
