Guest guest
Angel, I don't see why Dr. Ponseti would not want Kai there. I think it would be a great idea. He is a perfect example of why doctors need to actually study the Ponseti method instead of just reading about it and trying to blindly follow it. Some docs don't realize that it is more than just 5-7 casts and a tenotomy followed by some time in any ol' brace. Hearing his story and meeting him could help a lot of doctors to learn that just because a foot relapses or has complications, the Ponseti method can still work and surgery does not become the only remaining option. They could learn a lot about atypical clubfoot in general from you and Kai. The skeptical doctors may even become believers in the method, because if it works for an atypical clubfoot then surely they will realize what it can do for a 'typical' CF. Afterall Kai's foot is more difficult to treat than most right? I think that even if his foot is casted at the time, his presence would be beneficial to a lot of people and parents out there. Personally, I think you should go if you can. That is just my $0.02. Freeman
Guest guest
Charity, I would really like to bring Kai to the symposium and I think this would be enough notice for us to do it, but what I would like to know is if Dr Ponseti would want Kai there ... reasons being he may or may not have a corrected (or relapsing) foot at that time, and he does not have a " normal " clubfoot. I would think from a teaching perspective that wether he was corrected or in need of more casting it would be a good opportunity to show an atypical foot at *some* point of the process, and one of the reasons for the Brace. I guess my concern is this - there is no way of knowing until the time of the symposium whether Kai would be a 'success' story, or in need of casting. Does this make any sense?? Maybe I should contact Dr Ponseti directly about it ... ? let me know what you think, and if you need more information. Angel

Guest guest
Angel, I will be talking to Dr.P tomorrow morning and I will tell him that you are interested in coming. I do know that they only have so much time for children and what he told me was that he already has some kiddos lined up, but was interested in who else was coming. I will post tomorrow after I talk with him. I wouldn't worry about what stage he will be in etc... Take Care, Charity PS I agree with though that a-typical is definitely something we need to educate these doctors about. Guest guest
Angel, In my personal opinion, I'm sure Dr. Ponseti would love to have Kai at the symposium. I know last year, there was a little girl (whose family had moved from Colorado to Iowa City to see Dr. Ponseti) there who has had to have a couple surgeries even here - she wasn't treated by Dr. Ponseti until she was nearly 2, I believe. kitaki wrote: > Charity, > > I would really like to bring Kai to the symposium and I think this > would be enough notice for us to do it, but what I would like to know > is if Dr Ponseti would want Kai there ... reasons being he may or may > not have a corrected (or relapsing) foot at that time, and he does not > have a " normal " clubfoot.
