By Ponseti protocol that is way too early - he prescribes approximately FOUR

YEARS, not less than one year.

Hi -

My son is 16 months old and has been walking for about a month. He

was born with bilateral clubfoot and was treated with the ponseti

method. He stopped wearing the DBB altogether at about 10 months old

because our sugreon said he was completely corrected.

Now my son's toes are starting to curve in and the upper third of

both his feet are pointing inward. I took him to the surgeon today

and he said that unfortunately this recurrence is common and there is

nothing to do about it. He said it's basically just a cosmetic

problem.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, what did you do? I am

wondering if we stopped the DBB too early.

Thanks.

Hi Shauna,

Yes, to early. 3-4 years in the bar is what is needed to maintain

the correction. Like the previous post said, can you get in touch

with a dr. from Ponseti's list and take your son to them? He will

likely be recasted, maybe a tenotomy (did he have one before?) and

then back in the brace until he is 3-4 years old. After the initial

recorrection and almost full time bar wear he will probably go down

to just wearing it at night. I am not completely sure of the hours on

a walker. Where do you live?

Thank you all so much for responding to my message. I contacted Dr.

Ponseti's office and they referred me to someone in my area. We have

an appointment next week and I am hoping things are not too bad.
