Hi Jim,

Very glad for the company!

The hip kit was recommended by Dr. Ed from El Paso. It contains a bunch of

things like a locking devise for picking things up from the floor, a dressing

stick with shoe horn, terry cloth sock aid and a sponge with a long handle.

It is available from www.alimed.com or by calling 1 . Found it

easier just to telephone them. Also ordered from them (thigh length)

compression socks. I brought two pairs. The hospital will give us one. Dr. Ed

brought

three additional pairs with him. Alimed staff was very nice and gave 10%

discount on my entire order. Dr Ed also suggested a box of health bars.... If

you

want to snack or don't want to go downstairs and eat. Will also, bring some

caned protein drinks with me (something I have every day now)

I'm going a few days ahead of time to avoid pre-op jet lag and acclimate

myself to the new surroundings. Been in contact with anyone getting surgery on

Feb

3rd?

Hi ,

Thank you for your kind words. The beer is always better overseas! Finally,

we will all be in a more celebratory mood. Feeling that I will be finally out

of this pain far outweighs any thoughts of nervousness or apprehension about

the trip/operation.

You are certainly going to have company at the Holiday Inn ,Trever... I am

not sure about the chocolate and beer though; I have to admit that I have

had both but never together!! There is myself Jim -Vancouver Island,

Gray-Seatle, Bill-UK.and Mike from California all having surgery on

Feb 4th. We have been in contact through this support group and looking

forward to meeting each other in Belgium. It is getting pretty close to the

time so imagine everyone is getting a little nervous. I am curious about the

surgery date (mine is Feb. 4) approaches. Hopefully we can grab a

Hi

Thank you for the message .. sorry about the mistaken name last

message. I missed Dr. Ed's message but have pretty well everything

mentioned. The shoe horn and the sock aid have been pretty usefull for the

last month .All the sugestions on this forum have been very helpfull in

preparation for the trip and surgery. It was getting to quite a struggle

putting on the socks until I got the aid. You are the first that I have

heard getting surgery on the 3rd. I imagine there will be others that day

but maybe not on this support group. I have heard that Belgium has some of

the best beer in the world so looking forward to that!! " Stella Artois "

whose window does not open at all (that's the one I got in January!); so if it

is important to you to have some fresh air for the week you spend in that room,

make sure you get a room whose window open! I know some windows open cause there

was a couple of other hippies there I met and theywere able to open.

Other than that the hotel is fine.

wishes. Glad to read from an earlier post that things went so incredibly well

for you in Belgium. Someday Belgium Surfacehippies ought to have a reunion in

I have just been monitoring this group the last while and thought I

would jump in as it looks like there are going to be lots of people

in Belgium on the 3rd and 4th of Feb. My daughter (17) is going for

surgery on the 4th of February and my wife and I are going along with

her. We are staying at the Four corners B & B when we first arrive

then moving to the hotel. See you all over there.

Thanks Dr. Vince,

Stronger by the minute sounds fantastic as well as misplacing your crutches.

I have them always within viewing sight now. I did 5 European countries in 5

weeks in 2001 ..and the europeans are great. Not like the americans and those

" pushy new yorkers. " I'm brooklyn too ..lived most of my life in manhattan.

Got the Eddie Bauer " City " Pack and some cool " snap on/off sweat pants " from

pargon sporting goods during the snow storm. Leaving tomorrow to the Holiday

Inn. Friends sending me off with a bon voyage dinner at a greenwich village

restaurant. Hugo said the other day that Dr. Smet will visit me there before

surgery set for Feb. 3rd. He sounds like a great guy over the phone.

Thanks Dr. Vince,

Stronger by the minute sounds fantastic as well as misplacing your crutches.

I have them always within viewing sight now. I did 5 European countries in 5

weeks in 2001 ..and the europeans are great. Not like the americans and those

" pushy new yorkers. " I'm brooklyn too ..lived most of my life in manhattan.

Got the Eddie Bauer " City " Pack and some cool " snap on/off sweat pants " from

pargon sporting goods during the snow storm. Leaving tomorrow to the Holiday

Inn. Friends sending me off with a bon voyage dinner at a greenwich village

restaurant. Hugo said the other day that Dr. Smet will visit me there before

surgery set for Feb. 3rd. He sounds like a great guy over the phone.
