Re: BHR suitable for Acetabular protrusion?

Hello

Sorry - this is the first I've heard of your condition. One point

though - you might consider posting copies of your X-Rays to one of

the resurfacing surgeons ASAP. Hips can degenerate to a point where

resurfacing is no longer an option. There are several surgeons

(including Mr Treacy) who will look at your X-Ray without requiring

an appointment. At least you will then know what your options are.

Hope this helps - and good luck.

Dear ,

At last!!! Another protrusio patient! I have/had the same condition

and was successfully resurfaced. (Still have one hip to go.) It

doesn't rule you out, but it can be tricky to do. You have lots of

experienced BHR surgeons in England, so I would just send

them your x-rays and get their opinions. In my case, I had a very

thin medial wall. Also, make sure your surgeon measures both

legs and discusses leg length issues with your surgeon pre-op.

Because your socket (& femur) is set in so deep, you need to

figure out if your length will be affected by having the anatomy

corrected.

I'm perplexed, though, by your comment that you've only had p.a.

for 15 years. I understood the morphology to be a " genetic

variation " (the kind euphemism for " defect " ) with symptoms that

become more annoying with time as the OA chews up the joint. I

knew there was something wrong with my ROM from the time I

was 3.

Just know that because you have a condition much rarer than

dysplasia, you're not dysqualified. Good luck. While I'm sorry you

are facing surgery, I'm comforted to have the company of a fellow

protrusio patient on the board.

All the best,

Sheila
