Guest guest
Welcome to the group. Calcifications are deposits of calcium that can be seen on a mammogram. There are 2 kinds-macrocalcification, which are large deposits and are usually not related to cancer. Microcalcifications which are specks of calcium that may be found in the area of rapidly dividing cells. When thse specks form a certain pattern it is called a cluster. A cluster signified to a dr that the tissues surrounding the calcium specks may be cancerous. If the pattern is not clear, the dr may advise you to have another mammo in 3-6 mo. If the pattern of calcifications looks suspicious to the dr you will have a biopsy. About half of the cancers detected by a mammo are seem as these clusters on the mammogram. Try not to panic. Take it one day at a time or if need be an hour at a time. Breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it was once thought to be. I was diagnosed in 1990. I had a mastectomy, one bad node, 6 mo chemo, no radiation or reconstruction. I was Stage II. I will keep you in my prayers please let us know what you find out. Guest guest
My advice is to not worry too much until they tell you you have to. I was told that 85% of all biopsies come back negative. Hang in there! rockportdee wrote: I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT CALCIFICATION IS WHEN FOUND IN THE BREAST. I JUST HAD A CORE BIOPSY DONE AND AM WAITING FOR THE REPORT BACK. Guest guest
Hi Dee, The reason that I am having to wait to see what the onc. decides as far as the treatment is that the hospital is doing a test on some of the tissue called an OncotypeDX ( which will tell the oncologist which treatment is best for me )I had siqued (sp) up and now I am stuck in the waiting pattern. But at least I have read about more of the meds out there so I won't have such a blank look on my face when the onc. is talking Loved talking to you ne > > > > > > I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT CALCIFICATION IS > WHEN > > > FOUND IN THE BREAST. > > > I JUST HAD A CORE BIOPSY DONE AND AM WAITING FOR THE REPORT > BACK. > > THE > > > ONLY THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT THE MASS/TUMOR IS LESS THEN > A > > > CENTIMETER, HAS CALCIFICATION AND COULD BE CANCER. > > > > > > I AM TRYING NOT TO FEEL SCARED AND I JUST WOULD LIKE SOME > > INFORMATION > > > ON ANYONE WAITING FOR THEIR REPORT ALSO OR ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE > TO > > > COMMENT. Guest guest
Thanks for saying that I have alot of patience - That really means alot - I have had to cultivate patience with my huband's work and it helps in the library sometimes. I used to say that when my husband and I were dating that I always had to have a plan " B " and I have always tried to do that but lately it hasn't worked so good. Don't worry about the call not coming in. The calls are not usually as important to the DR as they are to us. You know in your heart of hearts that whatever happens you have already found one of the most important things to your recovery.- a place where you can go and ask and answer questions. You have also got your work and your family which will ( and are )be very important (in more ways than one) to you. Thank heavens that I have my job! Because if I didn't I know that I would sit home and " stew " (worry) about things( I am a great worrier!) To take my mind off things, I have even gone ahead and done alot of my Christmas shopping online. ne dee clark wrote: HI ADRIANNE, THANKS FOR EXPLAINING THAT TO ME. GOD HAS BLESSED YOU WITH PATIENCE. Guest guest
Hi, My world changed for me on Friday at 4:10 pm , October 20th. The doctor's call did come in from his nurse. She said I had invasive ductal cancer - I had to have a blood test, chest exray and ekg. Have not heard the results from that yet. So far my surgery is scheduled for Nov.20th. Guest guest
Dee, I am so sorry you are facing this. The most important thing at this point is to educate yourself on your disease and your options. Consult a medical oncologist before you commit to surgery as they are often doing chemo 1st for IDC now. See if there is a multi disciplinary second opinion clinic in your community or the next bigger town with a cancer center. Most do. I have just finished the 5th round of chemo with one more to go, a mastectomy scheduled for right after Thanksgiving. While it is not fun it is not the horrible, throwing up, incapacitated illness for most people. The new drugs are great and I am able to work all but two days each chemo cycle. It will be ok... > > > > > > > > > > I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT CALCIFICATION IS > > > WHEN > > > > > FOUND IN THE BREAST. > > > > > I JUST HAD A CORE BIOPSY DONE AND AM WAITING FOR THE REPORT > > > BACK. > > > > THE > > > > > ONLY THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT THE MASS/TUMOR IS LESS > THEN > > > A > > > > > CENTIMETER, HAS CALCIFICATION AND COULD BE CANCER. > > > > > > > > > > I AM TRYING NOT TO FEEL SCARED AND I JUST WOULD LIKE SOME > > > > INFORMATION > > > > > ON ANYONE WAITING FOR THEIR REPORT ALSO OR ANYONE WHO WOULD > > LIKE > > > TO > > > > > COMMENT. I WAS TO GET MY REPORT YESTERDAY, THURSDAY OR TODAY FRIDAY. I HAVE STAYED HOME ALL DAY TODAY - MY DAY OFF AND IT IS 4:10 AND I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. BUT LIKE THEY SAY NO NEWS IS GOODNEWS - THO - IT HAS CROSSED MY MIND TO CALL THEM BUT EVERY TIME I THINK OF DOING IT I GO INTO THE MUSHROOM MODE AND HIDE MY HEAD. YES -I AM A COWARD. OUR lIBRARY IS HAVING ITS FIRST PHOTGRAPHIC AMATEUR SHOW AND I AM IN CHARGE OF IT AND AM HAVING A HARD TIME GIVING 100%. I HAVE NOT GONE OUT TO ASK PEOPLE FOR GIFT CERTIFICATES YET AND ITS NOV.12TH! MAYBE TOMORROW - SATURDAY DOCTORS DON'T USUALLY CALL ON SATURDAYS - AT LEAST I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE CALL UNLESS I CALLED THEM FOR A REASON. GOD BLESS & MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU. Guest guest
My surgeon told me that it was ok to wait 2 months from time of diagnosis to surgery. I took advantage of every minute to research and prepare. I figured my tumor had probably been there for about 10 years so what was 2 months? Guest guest
Dee, I would be really careful about the clinical trial. I've heard some not good stories of people who participated in them. Make sure everything is absolutely spelled out for you. Guest guest
Personally, I'd find a new surgeon... I was disagnosed in mid-Sept., with a 7 mm tumor and I wanted it out as soon as possible. I didn't want it to grow another mm. I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and am about to have a re-excision today. I interviewed two of the best surgeons in the city. Both said it could wait 2-3 weeks, 4 max; both were able to get me in within a week. Good luck in making your decision. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT CALCIFICATION > > IS > > > > > WHEN > > > > > > > FOUND IN THE BREAST. > > > > > > > I JUST HAD A CORE BIOPSY DONE AND AM WAITING FOR THE > > REPORT > > > > > BACK. > > > > > > THE > > > > > > > ONLY THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT THE MASS/TUMOR IS > > LESS > > > THEN > > > > > A > > > > > > > CENTIMETER, HAS CALCIFICATION AND COULD BE CANCER. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I AM TRYING NOT TO FEEL SCARED AND I JUST WOULD LIKE > > SOME > > > > > > INFORMATION > > > > > > > ON ANYONE WAITING FOR THEIR REPORT ALSO OR ANYONE WHO > > WOULD > > > > LIKE > > > > > TO > > > > > > > COMMENT.
